I started a politics/opinion blog!

My perspective on the future of the so-called "Special Relationship" between the UK and the US in the new era of Trump's international gangsterism.
The 'Special Relationship' is over
You cannot cultivate a relationship with the political equivalent of the Sword of Damocles.

AI is extremely problematic, but this story makes a great point about investing in our talent instead of allowing the US to steal our talent. This could be investing in our talent for any innovation, not just AI. Keep our brilliant minds here. Compete with the offers from US companies.

The whole party is at this point, there's a reason several pride organisations have banned them.

All this is to say that Russia has a slaver mentality.

It reminds me a lot of reading accounts of slave holders in the American South during the American Civil War. They seemed utterly perplexed that those they enslaved hated them and were feigning their affections, they seemed delusionally convinced that their slaves actually loved them.

Does Italy have Cornish pasties?

Advantage: Cornwall

Even the smoke is in on it. Column of smoke is looking down on its handiwork like "hehehehe"

She looks a lot like my ash tabby, Amicus! He's 16 in January, you've lots of good years with her yet 😊
An ash tabby cat curled up on a white bedsheet. He's contorted into a tangle of legs and toebeans, and somehow he's perfectly comfortable.

Human beings are being born. Don't be obsessed about the color or variety. They are all good people striving to live a full/healthy/productive life.

Hate and fear mongering destroys any civilized society!

Really just admitting that Reform UK is another England-centric party that considers Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and the Overseas Territories & Crown Dependencies as afterthoughts.

The first Thanksgiving likely occurred between 21 September and 09 November, when the harvests actually take place.
ptomj.bsky.social
No it is not. Lincoln established the date as the last Thursday in November following the Battle of Gettysburg. The date was altered to an earlier date by FDR, but then he restablished the date in 1941, specifically to create a longer Christmas shopping season.

Third, you cannot in the same breath say "who knows why he did this?" and then say "Israel's actions are making Jews unsafe" in the same sentence. One contradicts the other. Israel's ethnic cleansing of Palestine is *no* excuse for antisemitic attacks.

I don't take kindly to being accused of insulting people when I did no such thing, so write an actual response next time instead of imitating a bot.

Second, as I say, you would not be doing this much obfuscating and shrugging had the victims been Muslim or Hindu instead of Jewish.

> The date of US Thanksgiving is a Depression-era rule made official by FDR in 1941 specifically to create a longer Christmas shopping season in order to boost the then-ailing economy, but it just stuck. Before that US Thanksgiving was earlier and tied to the (slightly later) harvest season

People seem to be intentionally misreading this post, so:

> This is because Canadian Thanksgiving & Columbus Day fall on the same day, so performative morons looking to score social brownie points are accusing Canadians of celebrating a genocidal coloniser, even though it's tied to Canada's harvest
julieslalonde.bsky.social
Thanksgiving in Canada has nothing to do with Columbus!

We are a colonial country with a million things to atone for but Thanksgiving is not one of them.

Our Thanksgiving is timed with the harvest and it's literally just "Be grateful for harvest"

US Imperialism has brain rotted too many of you.

It's because Canadian Thanksgiving falls on the same day as Columbus Day in the US, so performative dipshits are accusing Canadians of celebrating a genocidal coloniser. The date of the US Thanksgiving is actually a Depression-era rule to create a longer Christmas shopping season.
ptomj.bsky.social
The date of the US Thanksgiving was set in 1941 to create a longer Christmas shopping season to boost the Depression-era economy. Nobody is claiming the US Thanksgiving has anything to do with Columbus. It's that Canadian Thanksgiving falls on Columbus Day in the US this year.
ptomj.bsky.social
Nobody said American thanksgiving has anything to do with Columbus. The date of the US Thanksgiving was set in 1941 to create a longer Christmas shopping season to boost the Depression-era economy. It doesn't have anything (now) to do with the harvest. Nobody is harvesting just before December.
ptomj.bsky.social
It's because Columbus Day in the US falls on Oct 13, so performative outrage merchants who think the world revolves around the US are claiming Canada celebrates Columbus Day as Thanksgiving.
ptomj.bsky.social
Nobody is conflating the US Thanksgiving with having anything to do with Columbus? The US Thanksgiving isn't timed with the harvest, it was moved to the end of November to create a longer shopping season during the Depression to boost the economy, and it stuck. Just take the L and move on.

It wouldn't just bring down the US political system, but it would blow gaping holes in those of several other nations. It would possibly be the biggest global sex scandal in human history.

And that's why they need to be released.

Let justice be done, though the heavens fall.

It's not just those who visited Epstein Island either. It's those who knew and did nothing. It's those who handled the finances. It's those who were involved, directly or peripherally, knowingly or unknowingly. It's not just US politicians, financiers, party grandees, etc. but from many nations.
ptomj.bsky.social
I'm of the view that the reason they haven't released the Epstein files in the States is not because it just implicates Trump (whose name could be redacted), but that it so intricately implicates hundreds of people in such complexity, that they can't redact them all & have the files make any sense.

the Andrew-Epstein stuff may well pale in comparison with what he was getting up to/being offered in his role as an 'ambassador' for the British arms trade, incidentally.
