If you're digging the trenches anyway, you could mix in some crocuses and hyacinths. Maybe some lilies for later in the season. 😁

The weather continues to feed my desire for desk bouquets.🌱

Does it count as a bouquet if each flower is in its own vase? Dinnerplates don't exactly share very well.
Sandman, an orange dahlia with golden split tips on its petals. Spartacus, a dark red dahlia with curly petals and pink streaks on the backside. An unnamed pinkish dahlia with yellow highlights and an open yellow center.

Also, a small fossilized fish.

Have you bought from Holland Bulb Farms before? I've had terrible luck with their stuff before.

Do you have an easy way to dig some trenches? I think that's easier than digging 300 separate holes.

Everybody knows you fight one block past the last crossing guard station.

You poor girl! To have to see such things!

I counted yesterday. I've got 40+. A few in the ground that I might sacrifice to the gods of winter, but most of them are in pots and a few of the pots have multiple plants. Those will all get lifted and stored.

I'm in a micro climate on the northern edge of 5b. 4a starts literally two blocks away from my house.😀

It's about 8 inches deep and at least 2 feet across. The 1st time I did this, 2 years ago, I kept them in the garage and last year I left them exposed on the screened in porch, which didn't work as well. This year, on the porch, close to the house with a cover.

Beautiful! Do you know the name of the pink and yellow at the bottom left?

Porch tulips are ready for a long winter nap.

Also planted hyacinth (for @winniethewoot.bsky.social), anemones and lamium in DMH's woodland garden, and erythroniums in the Seuss garden for me.

More tulips, Bluebells, and fritillaries tomorrow.🌱

Hmm... Have you tried writing?

DMH thought I was nuts when I got super excited about buying one of these at an estate sale until I explained I was going to hang it right inside the door of the tutoring lab.

Do you think losing her license would stop her driving? I don't know if you have to be a relative for them to listen, but you can contact the DMV to suggest they make her take a road test.

You can lift them and store the tubers someplace cool if you're worried about them freezing.

These are dahlias. I grow mine in pots because they won't survive a Wisconsin winter and lift the tubers every fall and store them in the basement. I listed the specific varieties in another response if you're interested.

The spiky red one in back is Dr. Rick, Big Brother is the flaming one in the center, across the bottom (left to right) are Spartacus, Labyrinth, and Red Labyrinth. Don't know the purple in the back.

If it hadn't rained in 3-4 days, I watered and fed them with a 10-30-20 fertilizer. Best year ever
quasihatrack.bsky.social
They're all various kinds of dahlias. Do you want to know which types they are?

I always buy a ton of zinnia seeds and just throw them around the rose beds. I never thought about pinching them back beyond picking the occasional bouquet.
