If anything, AI slop is "just" a ramp up in volume of postmodern cultural grey goo, ultimate visual remix culture by atomized patterns of styles. But are we not used to this for at least 2 generations now? How is this ramp up in volume a fundamental shift?

I guess "visual truth" is intertwined with the aesthetic of a news segment, a visual style we usually associate with authenticity. But isn't that aesthetic association broken at least since the 90s?

I get the point, but do scale (easy to use wishfulfillment machine) and realism (lets forget about 3 arms for now) really make for a fundamental perceptual shift here?

Trump is "playing" politics by the rulebook of broadcast TV, and gleefully adopts any meme compatible, from "emperor Trump" to "dark mugshot" to "white house cagefight".

These are memes establishing this administration as a fictional space where anything goes.

Stop playing their game.

I know it's ironic distancing, but stop refering to the wider circle of the Trump administration as cinematic universe. You're appropriating the aesthetication of politics and you fall for the memplex they installed.

AI dubs as an option, fine, excellent even, maybe. But just changing the audio track of videos is invasive and anti-culture, and then you don't even have the option in embeds to change it back to original.

Not sure englishspeaking critics of AI are aware of this, but the new-ish AI-generated autotranslate-tool on Youtube which dubs english vids into your local languages now also translates live shows of experimental Hip Hop, rendering YT useless for sharing rap vids outside US/UK. Ridiculous.

It is impossible to overrate how much Casaro was a defining force of the look and feel of 80s movieposter, together with Drew Struzan. When today we are complaining that all movie posters look the same: These guys created the blueprint on which the whole movie industry still feeds aesthetically.

Artworks for Leviathan, another 80s scifi-horror favorite of mine. I regulary watch this movie in tandem with DeepStar Six, both rather mediocre underwater Alien-ripoffs that nevertheless have some charme to them.
