I was finally persuaded to watch Black Panther by its presence on the NYT best 100 films of the 21st century list.
A solid 3, no clue what the hype was.

One of the cartoons in my new book 'Physics for Cats' which is out now in the UK, USA, Canada, France and Germany. Order from your local bookshops or online: www.tomgauld.com/
Two beetles on a stick.
One beetle says to the other "Do you ever get the feeling we are being observed by another lifeform"
Zoom out to reveal that they are in a glass case with two scientists studying them.
One scientist says to the other "Do you ever get the feeling we are being observed by another lifeform"
Zoom out into space. Abouard a spaceship, two aliens watch the scientists on a screen.
One alien says to the other "Do you ever get the feeling we are being observed by another lifeform"
The aliens turn to look out at the reader.

Text below the cartoon reads:
From 'Physics for Cats' by Tom Gauld. Preorder it at www.tomgauld.

Read, with Junior: Ursula Le Guin: The Tombs of Atuan (1971).
I love this as much as the first Earthsea book, but I think Junior felt it was a tad too sombre and claustrophobic.
Regardless, Le Guin is the queen of fantasy.

[checking Wikipedia to see if New Edition had to share any credits with the writers of Jackson 5's ABC.]

Both of whom I'll most likely pick in the Tens/Noughties. Excellent pedigree.

Olivia Rodrigo: Get Him Back (2023 🇺🇸)

Pop rock! By far my most streamed pick, one of only four 100 mio+ noms.
It seems that of my first ten songs I am alone in choosing eight of them, so far.

Heard your boyfriend watched Satantango in five sittings

Sorry to hear about it.
Is there a better one than Blood On The Tracks?

I bet you're right. If I can see I won't make it, I might start skipping every third word or so.

So, if it's Gerald Murnane next year, where do I start with him?

Going only by the film, it'll be a very boring book. But I like a boring book every now and then. I liked the film.
Still, glad it might not actively resist me.

I am yet to read László Krasznahorkai, but I've just bought Sátántangó, and am curious to see if I can read its 304 pages in less than the film adaptation's running time of 7 hours and 19 minutes.

The Nobel Prize in Literature goes to: Selma Lagerlöf!

Yes, she's long dead and already received it, as the first woman, so this is a bit of a first, but there you have it.

You had me at Lubitsch (and Norma Shearer). And I see it's on YouTube, excellent.

Possibly the biggest Danish film star until Mads Mikkelsen, I hadn't ever seen him in anything until I recently watched the wonderful Grand Hotel. Which he didn't exactly steal. Maybe he's forgotten for a reason.

@dorsalstop.bsky.social, would this have been your nom in a PPP Charity Crusher? That must have been where I heard it.

Oceanic: Sunshine, Dear (2023 🇳🇱)

The first (of seven) of my picks with fewer than 100k Sfotipy streams, and my first from outside the Anglosphere. But genrewise we're again in electronica/minimalism territory.

I don't really know her, but I like this album, and can see she's played with Jeff Parker, so 👌

After playing around on a website to see shipping costs etc, I have now received an email:

Dear Mrs sadfsdfd

I forget, can a strong third place mean you move on? Trying to figure out a group of death here …
rayburnmaarup.bsky.social
That's a good point.
Though generally, if you're referring to males only, these days wouldn't you say 'men', keeping 'man' for these hypotheticals?
Still, I'm inclined to agree with you in using 'we humans'.

Eternal question when translating old texts. I guess it depends on your general strategy for the text - how close to the original/natural sounding for today's reader. In short: I'm not sure.
(Is it 'man' from German?)
