The editor may also have contextual info the author doesn’t that makes clear *some* of reader 3’s concerns bear heeding.

Lol so 3 clearly wants a different project but theirs also sounds like the most interesting report. I’ve had this situation happen. No there’s no need for a total overhaul but some other much, much smaller tweaks may help the author refine and even further realize their vision.

the dirty secret of peer review is that it works great but there’s a huge academic labor crisis being compounded by an authoritarian government takeover soooo

it really is aaalllll useful information

this one says get rid of a chapter and that one says it’s my best chapter!!

great! then keep the chapter and do some further work to show why it belongs and is needed for your argument.

done! next!

you show me the most screamingly opposed reader reports and I WILL insist they’re not irreconcilable and are actually pushing if not for the same then for complementary ends

This is the response I received from ICE when I inquired about the 13-year-old they abducted from Everett, Mass. on Friday:
Good afternoon, Marisa.
Please see the below from DHS on the 13-year-old alien.
Please feel free to direct any questions to them.
Respectfully,
James

Here are the facts: he posed a public safety threat with an extensive rap sheet including violent assault with a dangerous weapon, battery, breaking and entering, destruction of property.
He was in possession of a firearm and 5-7 inch knife when arrested.

I told him I was kidding, don’t worry. But insofar as this 10K word article has been an experiment of sorts it has proven to me that I will never write another book let alone “long” article—not before this kid goes to college

Was just writing to you. Will keep spreading the word here and on Instagram for sure. Thank you for writing this excellent piece -- and I'm so sorry. And angry! Solidarity, Lisa.

typo: that should, of course, be Latino studies

I have worked with so many UT Austin faculty and PhDs -- as authors, as peer reviewers, as board members. These kinds of cuts affect US ALL, whether directly or indirectly. UT admin is meeting Tuesday. Let them know what a scandal this would be.
