“The incoherence is the point” and “you are projecting your own competency onto them” are going to be replaying in my head for a really, really long time

This whole thread reminds me I took an edible months ago and was smacked with a podcast idea (I know, I know) that I never shared:

A few millennials get together each episode to discuss and analyze a different “kids movie” from our generation through now-adult eyes.

I wouldn’t even call Hercules bad per se, just…lesser? Like I get what they were trying to do with the whole “we’ll stage it like it’s a play” thing. And it’s cute. And it starts off with a lot of promise. And then it just kinda goes nowhere for me. I’d rather watch Cats Don’t Dance (same year).

Appreciate this. We should all do a better job of remembering that just cus a band sucks now it doesn’t negate their previous greatness. Those first two Maroon 5 albums were great too.

This quote has lived rent free in my head for decades, and I hate it. And I hate that Elaine was the one to say it.

The subtext is only “female” bodies that meet white patriarchy’s standards. Meanwhile, I actually think men’s bodies are works of art too—yes, even the hairy, unfit, bald ones.
Elaine on Seinfeld saying: “Well the female body is a work of art. The male body is utilitarian, it's for getting around, like a Jeep.”

Buried in Michigan's antiporn bill is a provision to effectively outlaw "circumvention tools," such as VPNs.

Mark my words: legislators will increasingly leverage porn panic to restrict or ban VPNs, and to limit internet privacy far beyond adult sites.
Experts raise privacy concerns over Michigan bill targeting pornography and VPNs
Rep. Josh Schriver, the bill’s sponsor, says the law is designed to target only producers and distributors of pornography, not everyday internet users.

Yea I’m sure they’re all ridiculous but I’m also kinda curious 👀

I was thinking maybe 5 or 6 of them max. 8??? I have clearly been in a different universe these past 15ish years

I…did not realize there have been 8 different Mission: Impossible movies.

I’ve only seen the first three 😳

A lot of times, yes. I also have a moot who seems very self-possessed, but his persona is actually quite jovial. A bit of a goofball. But it doesn’t feel try-hard or insecure. He’s just him, and it works.

“I know who I am.
I feel good about who I am.
I happen to be cool, but I don’t think about myself in those terms or concern myself with that fact, nor do I need to convince you of it - I’m just doing me.”

I’ve never cared for the term BDE

But i get the general idea of being drawn to people who have self-possession. A carrying of one’s self with a level of confidence and self-assuredness that is…charming. Not bullish or conceited—a healthy amount of self-worth. It’s intoxicating to witness for sure.

It's so bonkers that the wealthiest country in the world just shut down its govt every few years for entirely political reasons and essential workers are forced to work without pay and everyone just accepts that's something that happens

Biden’s little “18-year terms” proposal isn’t enough. We need this kind of stance. As an actual party platform. There are no excuses at this point that hold any water.

This is why Dems not having, nor bothering to formulate, a solid court expansion platform is unacceptable

It is pretty galling that the Supreme Court spent four years telling Biden "you can't do that without Congress" then allowed Trump to seize a once-unthinkable amount of power from Congress within nine months and concentrate law-making authority almost entirely in the executive branch.

As it exists, I don’t believe that SCOTUS is actually a place that interprets the law or exists to seek justice. It is a lever of power and a numbers game, and I have no respect for it as an institution.

There is no consistency or true philosophy at work, save this: they do what they want.
