The defining feature of Trumpism is the collective hallucination of a reality that doesn't exist. They live in a delusion where cities are on fire and antifa is a thing comparable with Hamas or ISIS. They cannot afford to let widespread mass protest destroy the illusion. 1/2

Mike Johnson: "We're so angry about it. I mean, I'm a very patient guy, but I've had it with these people. The theory we have right now -- they have a hate America rally that's scheduled for October 18 on the National Mall. It's the pro-Hamas wing and antifa people ... "

If you are familiar with Stalin's propaganda campaigns of the 1930s, which whipped up a frenzy of fervent, ever-further-from-reality accusations, this is very familiar. Only here, half of America is looking at mental midgets like Mike Johnson and thinking, you people are nuts -- no one believes you.

We've had it you, Mike! Lately it seems like all Republicans and Trump officials are taking mushrooms or LSD. What they say is so far from reality that it's cartoonish. Unfortunately, the press doesn't guffaw and respond with, "Oh, come on. You don't expect us to take this seriously, do you?"

"He explained to me that he could hold onto his administrative post at Penn — which, in the contentious Trump era, has doubled down on institutional neutrality...Or he could heed the advice of his own book, and keep brawling in the rough-and-tumble arena for scientific truth.

Mann chose to fight."

“I’m trying to put this delicately,” Perry said. “There has been evidence submitted that the very presence of federal agents, that the way they’re interacting with the populace, is itself the cause of violence.”

Judge blocks Trump from deploying troops in Illinois for now
Officials in Oregon and Illinois had challenged the Trump administration’s push to dispatch the National Guard in both states.

Presidents and governors shouldn't be able to deploy National Guard troops from one state to another if that state's governor objects.

That is common sense, and yet Republicans just blocked my amendment to stop this blatant abuse of power. Another shameful abdication of duty.

NEW: Since October 2023, the IDF Spokesperson's Unit has released dozens of 3D animations illustrating alleged Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iranian sites

The style is now unmistakable: satellite zoom-ins, black & white wireframes, and red-textured houses - a new visual language of war

Or at least reinstate the social norms that shame people who openly express such semntiments in public.

No sh*t! I understand why the Republicans voted for Trump's moronic, incompetent cabinet appointees. But why did Dems vote for them? Bipartisanship is not possible when the other party is trying to burn democracy to the ground.

Stop reading and objecting to the NYT! It is compromised, has been for a long time, and should not be the center of the media conversation. Ignoring it, cancelling your subscription and encouraging others to do the same will eventually be far more effective. Ditto for WaPo and LAT.

I think the Court also needs more former legislators and a hell of a lot more people who earned their degrees at state universities and not the Ivies. As a friend pointed out, it's not even all the Ivies, it's Yale and Harvard. Ugh.

Only the most arrogant self-righteous people in the world could believe this. But alas, the Roberts' majority fits the bill. My favorite example was Alito telling us in the Maine religious school case that the founders never intended a strict separation of church and state!
reasonmatters.bsky.social
Yes, this is exactly it. They have to wield power. You can't adhere to dempcratic procedures if both the Republican Party and the Supreme Court majority are working to destroy democracy. A president who is not culpable for criminal acts in office is not a president of a democracy.

Even worse, it is using its decisions to rewrite the U.S. Constitution. As if we, the people, won't notice!

Apropos absolutely nothing else there is still a rather rude awakening which is yet to come for those in the Democratic Party and in the camp of liberalism writ large if they think Israel's public image is at all recoverable among young and nonwhite voters and apparatchiks.
