Granite Staters have already started to feel the negative impacts of the shutdown and impending health insurance price hikes.

I’m fighting for legislation that tackles both these issues. I’ll keep listening to Granite Staters and working for them.

Pappas discusses government shutdown impacts with Community Action Partnership of Strafford County
As the government shutdown enters its second week, worries about financial strain are growing across New Hampshire.

Today marks Day 10 of the shutdown and Speaker Johnson has failed to call the House into session for three weeks.

Here’s my update. ⬇️

Helping students of all backgrounds find success in higher education is something I will always support and fight for.

I was grateful to meet with these students, hear about their passion to learn and drive to succeed, and I know this roadblock won’t stop them.

Today I met with students at UNH from the TRIO McNair program. The Trump administration canceled funding for this program, so it ran out of funding at the end of September.

Our efforts to get Sec. McMahon to deliver these promised funds to our students have been unsuccessful, but we won’t give up.

The agreement to return the hostages and pull back Israeli troops is a crucial breakthrough.

The war must end and relief must get to innocent civilians in Gaza. I’m hopeful that a ceasefire will build momentum for additional steps toward peace and security for Israelis and Palestinians.

Today in Dover I met with community organizations, including Strafford CAP, Dismas Home, and Hope on Haven Hill, to hear from them about the shutdown’s impact on their services, and also the urgent need for Congress to take action on rising health care costs facing families every day.

Great to be in Wolfeboro today for the groundbreaking ceremony for Phase III of Harriman Hill, a 30 unit affordable housing project.

We need more affordable housing across our state. I’ll keep working to ensure our communities have resources to get projects like this one done.

Failing to extend critical health care tax breaks will hurt our veterans.

Health care costs would increase significantly for 623,000 veterans who get their insurance through the ACA marketplace. 267,000 of them would be priced out of coverage. That’s unacceptable.

Paying our service members should be above politics.

That’s why I support bipartisan legislation to pay service members during a shutdown, and that’s why I’ve joined a letter calling on Speaker Johnson to bring the House back to pass it.

Yesterday I joined the State Veterans Advisory Committee to give an update on my work for NH veterans on the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, including my legislation to deliver a full-service hospital to NH.

I’m grateful for their service and everything they do for veterans.

The men and women of Portsmouth Naval Shipyard are critical to our national defense. Their ability to make ends meet shouldn’t hang in the balance due to dysfunction in Washington.

@goodlander.house.gov and I introduced legislation to ensure shipyard workers are paid during a shutdown.

In 2019 I helped pass the bill that guarantees federal workers get back pay so our families don’t pay for political dysfunction in D.C. President Trump signed it into law.

Hardworking Granite Staters are not pawns for Republicans in Washington. They deserve to be paid what they are owed.

Granite Staters cannot afford the political games being pulled by Republicans who control Congress and the White House.

Without extending critical health care tax breaks for working families, millions will be forced to go without health care, and even more could see their insurance costs double.

John Danforth, a U.S. Army veteran and devoted community leader, was named Hooksett Lions Club 2025 Citizen of the Year.

I was honored to present him with a statement read into the Congressional Record commemorating his accomplishments and commitment to his community.

Today we must honor the memory of those killed two years ago in Hamas' horrific attack on Israel.

Americans should not suffer because Republicans, who control the House, Senate, and White House, have forced our government to a standstill.

My Keep the Heat On Act would ensure LIHEAP is funded during a shutdown so Granite Staters are never left in the cold.

PAPPAS INTRODUCES THE KEEP THE HEAT ON ACT
The legislation would fund LIHEAP during a shutdown to ensure that families are not forced to pay more to heat their homes or left in the cold in the winter months.

On Manufacturing Day, we recognize our manufacturers and how they drive our local economies.

Smart investments in domestic manufacturing will make the industry and our country stronger. Reckless tariffs rising prices for businesses and families won’t.

Republicans control the House, Senate, and White House. They have chosen to avoid any negotiation and shut the government down rather than lower health care costs and reverse their Medicaid cuts.

Granite Staters already pay too much for energy. Now costs will be even higher because the Trump administration is canceling projects that were going to help to lower costs for our communities.

It’s backwards and it's wrong.
