• Stop eating octopus products and be a voice for those who can't speak for themselves

How can you help octopuses:
• Pick up trash when you see it so it doesn't end up in our waterways
• Don't use chemicals on your lawn - these end up getting washed away with rain, down drains and into our lakes, rivers, streams, and oceans

They're incredibly intelligent and deserve a home free from waste. They also deserve better than ending up on our plates.

They use crevices in rocks and discarded items (human waste that makes it into the ocean) as homes. I once saw where an octopus had laid its eggs in a toilet and sealed the opening with itself to keep the babies safe!

We have a few favorite foods in common: crabs, lobsters, and shrimp 🦐

They use their jaws, which function like a bird's beak, to bite their prey *cough* I mean lunch.

Octopuses come in all sizes, including the dwarf octopus with arms about 2 inches long, or the Pacific giant octopus (like you see in an aquarium) with arms about 30 feet long on record!

Octopuses swim by forcing water out of their mantle cavity (at the back of their heads) through the siphon. They can move the siphon around so they can move in more directions. ✨ Jet propulsion ✨

Today is World Octopus Day! 🐙

Octopuses are predator cephalopods, ("head-footed") agile swimmers, and have complex nervous systems.

Don't forget to give it a little love to your backyard birds today! If you have the means, put out sugar water for hummingbirds, seeds for the others, and give them access to water. It makes a big difference, especially during mating season! More resources = more bird babies = more pollinators! 🐥

🐟 Arctic river turns toxic

Alaska’s remote Salmon River, once clear, is now orange and metal-laden due to permafrost thaw exposing sulfide minerals. Toxic levels threaten fish and salmon-dependent communities.

Migration season is wild, and the least we can do is not make it harder. Turn off extra lights at night, plant natives so they have food on the way to their final destination, and keep cats indoors so they’re not hunting our tired travelers.

Share with your fellow #bird lovers! 🐦💚
