UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

With everything else going on, the Tylenol “announcement” may seem minor. But it’s not. The Trump admin’s lies about acetaminophen are part of the same agenda: controlling women’s bodies, demonizing them, and making them suffer needlessly. A policy of intentional cruelty and othering.

Only 1 person in the whole study went from identifying as trans to not identifying as trans. The 1/5 number came from youth going between the binary and non-binary spectrum.

This headline and post are misleading on purpose to fit the economist's editorial bent on the political issue.

A recent study found that children who transitioned young retained stable gender identities over time. But the fact that nearly a fifth of those in the group did not ought to give advocates of irreversible medical interventions pause
How stable are the gender identities of younger children?

Under the UNFCC Canada is not responsible for the downstream combustion emissions of the fossil fuels we export. So we conveniently ignore them (as in Ksi Lisims Assessment and BC and fed announcements today), though those GHGs are more than Canada's territorial emissions to the global atmosphere.

There it is

BC Environment Minister Tamara Davidson and Energy Minister Adrian Dix have given the green light for the Ksi Lisims LNG Facility

Once operational, the plant will be the second largest LNG production facility in BC and may use natural gas to power the liquefaction process #bcpoli

'“We recognize that LNG facilities, along with natural gas pipelines...has deeply affected Indigenous communities & ways of life, & that Ksi Lisims LNG will contribute to cumulative effects on ecosystems & communities,” [Tamara Davidson & Adrian Dix] wrote.'

But we're gonna approve it anyway!

B.C. just approved one of its largest LNG projects yet.

Ksi Lisims LNG will ship 12M tonnes of gas a year overseas. Ministers say it will benefit the Nisg̱a’a Nation — but also admit it will worsen greenhouse gas emissions.

Carney is privileging those supporting fossil fuels, while violating the standard of FPIC for those who do not. Nations who oppose LNG will be subjected to costly legal battles and militarized police violence, while Canada invests in a dwindling LNG market and risks being stranded in a global glut.

One way to help keep that number from going up would be to stop expanding the LNG industry. LNG is a fossil fuel with warming potential equal to or greater than coal. And the BC NDP are all-in on its expansion.

It's disappointing to see the Vancouver Park Board host a Harry Potter "experience" in Stanley Park. This will funnel money to possibly the world’s most vocal transphobe. Vancouver is supposed to be an inclusive, LGBTQ+ supporting city, and we absolutely shouldn’t be platforming her.

We have a short window of time for the City Council to act.

Crash today at Broadway & Lakewood, right in front of the school my kids attend. Hundreds of kids cross here daily.

15 crashes annually. No school zone. No traffic calming. No enforcement.

40% of drivers speed here. Each hour, 10+ go 20km/h over. One per day hits 100km/h! & the City does nothing.
A photo of a car flipped on its back in the intersection of Broadway and Lakewood. An ambulance and fire truck are on scene. Cones delineate the crash zone. Laura Secord Elementary is in the background.
