This new legislation is terrifying—not just because of the environmental destruction these laws will accelerate, but because of the ways our sovereign rights get watered down to “economic reconciliation,” a mere assimilation into a failing economy built on our dispossession and genocide.
Canada’s new fast-track laws are sidelining Indigenous consent and gutting environmental protections—then calling it “reconciliation.”

@janellelapointe.bsky.social breaks down why Indigenous communities—and everyone else in Canada—must reject this false promise.

Well, I made it through my first COP experience and I feel as though I did it to the max! I spoke my truth on several panels and press conferences—calling out Canada, the lies of economic reconciliation and LNG. I went toe to toe with our Minister of Environment and Climate Change.

Full video of our civil society (and a couple of rez kids) meeting with Minister Dabrusin, the day after Carney’s MPO announcement. I appreciate this angle because you can really appreciate my body language and blank face. #cdnpoli #cop30
Last week at #COP30, our members & allies pressed Environment and Climate Minister @juliedabrusin.bsky.social on climate finance, adaptation, the #BAM—and its expansion of fossil fuel projects that turn Indigenous communities into sacrifice zones. ✊💥

At COP30 Canada just got awarded the fossil of the day — first time since 2014 (the harper years). Clear sign of how Carney’s pro fossil fuel agenda and backsliding on climate policy is being noticed internationally.

Last week, we asked Mark Carney a simple question about the Ksi Lisims LNG terminal: “How much taxpayer money are we prepared to invest in a project that is American-owned and foreign built?” He deflected for 3 mins without answering the question. Watch: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tD8...

Congratulations to Canada for winning the Fossil of the Day (even beating the European Union!) at #COP30 for their backsliding on climate, violations of Indigenous rights, pretending that CCS and “low-carbon oil” are real, and absenteeism from the conference itself!!!!!!!!!! #cdnpoli

As the CDN prime minister designates select projects like Coastal GasLink and LNG Canada in the "national interest," the companies behind them continue to form deep ties with Canada's spy agency and other federal law enforcement. Here's a look at why this matters. thenarwhal.ca/csis-resourc...

Really disappointing, especially when civil society groups are utterly disappointed with Canada’s presence at #COP30. Surely if they had a plan to meet our targets, they would be showcasing it here. Instead, we got empty words AND new fossil fuel project announcements.
BREAKING: Green Party Leader Elizabeth has confirmed that, due to the assurances she received from the prime minister regarding Canada's climate targets during QP today, she WILL support the budget.

The Liberals only need one more "yes" vote to avoid an election.

Heavy police presence on Day 1 of Week 2 at #COP30. Need military to keep Indigenous people out, while 1600+ fossil fuel lobbyists waltz in. In Canada’s case, many of them are apart of our official party delegation.

Re-upping this 🧵 from when Ksi Lisims LNG was given enviro approval.

NOTE: Downstream emissions from Ksi Lisims will be roughly equivalent to 5% of Canada's TOTAL domestic GHG emissions. This is a carbon bomb - a willful act of arson.

Mark Carney simply does not get the climate emergency... 👇
This Ksi Lisims LNG approval is terrible news.

"It's hard to believe that we're moving ahead in B.C. with climate-destroying LNG projects in the midst of a climate crisis," said Tara Marsden, sustainability director for the Gitanyow hereditary chiefs.

Canada is telling the world at #COP30 that they are committed to keeping global temperatures below 1.5C, but Carney just praised LNG and committed taxpayer dollars to projects that have detrimental consequences for Canadians and the international community they claim to stand behind! #canpoli
