Canada's true crisis is the everyday emergency of just trying to get by in an impossible economy.

I’m running for NDP leader so we can transform a system rigged for the rich—together.

We need a government that serves the many, not the money.

3/ “…and venture out to sea to break the siege of Gaza and bring the medical equipment we are transporting for the people of Gaza.”

2/ “The work we are currently doing is something that governments should be doing, and since governments are not doing it, we, humanitarians, health personnel, and journalists, are obliged to do it…”

2/ Conservatives claim they'd make the damage harder, faster.

This is why we need the NDP.

We understand that economic independence means building our own economy of care and repair, not climate bombs or actual rockets.

Unfortunately PM Carney works for the money, not the many.

I’m running for NDP leader because I believe the government *can* actually make people’s lives better— but only if we fight for it, together.

Saskatchewan has more crown corporations than any other province. A bold idea for making life more affordable: public options at every single step of the supply chain that's ripping us off. #cdnpoli #NDP

Proud to stand with Tanille Johnston and Rob Ashton at the Saskatchewan NDP convention. We're contesting the same job, but all working hard for this party. Join us, it can be yours too #cdnpoli #NDP

4/ Thank you, @albertateachers.bsky.social, for standing up to this extremist government, for the sake of our collective future.

3/ "...when they have special needs, and can’t count on a healthy public system to be with them as they grow up.

And energized, hopeful and committed teachers have always been the ones to lead this struggle around the world."

2/ "I don’t need to tell you, of all people, that robust, creative, fully funded and universal public education is the foundation on which democracy rests.

You understand that there can be no meaningful democracy in a place where children go to school hungry, don’t have resources available..."

1/ Exactly 20 years ago, I was honoured to speak at the Alberta Teachers' Association convention, 2005.

I've got the same message of solidarity and appreciation I did then:

Getting to work or school everyday shouldn’t be the Hunger Games. That’s why I was proud to join UBC staff and students at their rally demanding that the UBC Skytrain finally be built.

The federal government needs to step up and start funding public transit like the vital public service it is.

3/ No excuses for hate, no exploitation of it.
avilewis.ca
2/ First, clear and unequivocal condemnation of this crime of hate and against all antisemitism.

Second, clear and unequivocal opposition to all who would exploit such acts to silence others standing up to hate and violence (like those protesting Israel's genocide).

1/ The antisemitic attack in Manchester is devastating enough without adding insult to mortal injury.

Two unshakeable principles should meet such acts.

As @freedomflotilla.bsky.social is attacked by Israel, mant more boats follow.

Share this video from Nima Machouf who is on one of them! Shocking that media won't cover this: people from all walks of life are determined to break Gaza's siege. Governments fail, people rise.

When Canada needed oil during WWII, Imperial was under Crown control serving the public interest.

Now it's 70% owned by ExxonMobil.
Billions in profits, cutting 1 in 5 jobs.

The biggest enemy of fossil fuel workers is not climate activists. It's the industry itself.
CBC headline from Sep 29 2025: Imperial Oil to cut 900 jobs, will mostly leave Calgary.

Subheading: Company says changes to come by end of 2027.

I've learned so much here, and it has enriched me immeasurably. I encourage you to learn about this extraordinary Nation too. There is a wealth of film and video - people around here are incredible storytellers!

Many projects over the years have built the connective tissue of shared work, as non-Indigenous community members have committed to the long patient work of learning and unlearning that is the prologue to reconciliation.

Sechelt has also had a community reconciliation process for many years. The Syiyaya Reconciliation Movement began as a response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action - particularly the ones about the importance of education.
