In just 12+ hours:

🇫🇷 23,615 French dead
🇬🇧 8,581 British dead

A day almost erased from memory.

The 27k figure cannot be back up by hard evidence I.e index death records of soldiers. The indexed number for the 22nd is less than the 25th September

Sgt Laurent Marie Bernier, 38, was hit at 16:00 by a shell, his leg torn off and head wounded.

Herve Lambert commented: “We’d not moved him 10m when a 150 fell where he’d been.”

For all Herve efforts, Laurent died the next day; buried at La Nécropole Fontaine Routhon
