While essential for life, excess nitrogen is turning fertile soil toxic, endangering marine life, and polluting the air we breathe.

UNEP’s interactive explains what nitrogen pollution is, where it comes from, and how we can #BeatNitrogenPollution: www.unep.org/interactives...
How can we measure the environmental effects of livestock systems? Our work with FAO provides the answers. Check out the new global guide: "Ecosystem Services Assessment in Livestock Agroecosystems”. #EcosystemServices #LivestockFarming #GlobalGuidance @fao.org @ipcc.bsky.social @ilri.org
#ReactiveNitrogen has a huge impact on our planet. We're proud to have contributed to new international guidance on how to assess it. The "INMS Guidance Document on Nitrogen Impact Assessment Methods" is out now. @towardsinms.bsky.social @in-net.bsky.social

Water is intrinsically linked to food security, health, and well-being. 🌍💙 Water scarcity impacts food production & livelihoods. Water is vital for food prep & hygiene. Water insecurity fuels distress & depression.

If we can’t live without water, why are we poisoning our rivers?
If we can’t live without forests, why are we cutting them down?
If we can’t live without soil, why are we stripping it of life?

We depend on nature—not the other way around. So why are we pushing our best ally to the brink?
What a lovely day to be in the field! Visit to our wheat-pea #livinglabs under #Leguminose_EU Project at famers' fields across various locations. #LegumeCereal #Intercropping #SustainableAgriculture #Biodiversity #Nitrogen #SoilHealth #HorizonEurope @pathanshamina.bsky.social

🌍😷 Excess nitrogen pollutes our rivers, oceans, air, wildlife and climate.

🚜💚🌍 But farmers could improve their environmental impact and save costs by adopting best practice from organic farms, where farmers use nature-based solutions instead of artificial fertilisers youtube.com/shorts/oz9Vq...
#Nitrogen pollutes our #rivers, oceans, air, #biodiversity and #climate. So what can we do about it?

+Our paper now out in @nature.com. We designed and built at AMOLF a robot that maps & tracks fungal networks as they trade nutrients with plants. We discovered how fungi build and operate hyper-efficient 'supply chains' for underground ecosystems.
