Obviously not all this language lives up to our modern understanding of transness, but reading how an Oklahoma Baptist organization was one of our staunchest defenders, how they believed God gave us our hearts above all else and that fitting the body to the heart was Christian work, is so powerful.

I also got teary eyed telling the story of the Baptist Medical Center of Oklahoma City, one of the first US clinics to offer gender-affirming care.

In 1977 when the Baptist General Convention voted to shut them down, the staff fought tooth and nail to keep providing GAC. These were their words.

"If Jesus Christ were alive today, undoubtedly he would render help and comfort to the transsexual."

"These [trans] women are genetically female."

"This is about healing women who feel trapped in men's bodies."

"My husband won't abandon these people." - One of the doctors' wives.

On my partner's request, I changed "I'm a dumbass" in my vocabulary to "I'm a dingus", which eventually evolved into "I'm a dingo", and now the image of a cool Australian dog has replaced every insult related to stupidity in my head.

Got kind of emotional, may have cried a bit, doing my presentation on the history of gender-affirming care, because my research on the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft made it pretty clear that Dora Richter, the first woman to receive a vaginoplasty was murdered by a Nazi during the May 1933 raid. How awful that this person who carried such a powerful part of our history, who had just succeeded in a massive breakthrough for her life and future, had her bright future cut short. How awfully symbolic.

Got very emotional, may have cried for real, doing a bit of casual extra research afterward and learning that last year researcher Clara Hartmann discovered primary documents showing that Dora Richter escaped, fled Nazi Germany, returned home to a rural German village in 1946, and lived with her boyfriend, as herself, as a well-loved and respected woman, to 74. How beautiful that this woman who carried such a powerful part of our history persevered, got to live her bright future. How beautifully symbolic.

That’s already what’s happening in Lebanon. Israel kills regularly, violates the ceasefire agreement on an hourly basis.

It’s just not on the news anymore.

This is why pressure against Israel mustn’t just continue, but increase.
