The NYT arse is at it again
An impressively cryptic slice of Italian madness. Notable for its originality, there's a lot to love here. Especially John Saxon, who is a joy every time he's on screen.
I liked 2011 remake. It was surprisingly good.
While there's a high body count and some intriguing plotting, it's Bava's visual style which really makes Blood and Black Kace work. In many ways the blueprint for what was to follow.
The farce of 'pumpkin patches' in the UK has to be the biggest con going.
I took a punt on this and it's surprisingly good. A vampire thriller/romance which does a lot of good work around drawing out characters. It's a real offbeat, expertly paced, slow-burn.
Have you been watching Kandagawa Pervert Wars again?!!

Is there any prolific director who doesn't have a mixed output?
I love returning to this every now and then. It's just so well made. You can imagine someone looking at the concept and wondering how on earth it could be adapted into a film, but it's done in such a way which makes it really immersive and incredibly tense.
Some cinemas in the UK seem to be holding back to next (theatrical) week, so might be the same there?
It's that sad day of the year for any Yorkshireman when he has to put the heating on.
Saw that in a cinema at 14.

I used to watch horror films at 10 though, so probably Cujo or Hellraiser.
I have no idea why this isn't considered a classic as it really is brilliant. Such a clever meta comedy horror, which uses its subject against itself.
I learnt today they films studios/PRs actually proactively look to give opportunities to film fans who will write nice things about their films. Who knew?
Loving today's discourse.

mix of:

People who will cross a picket line to watch a film but object to people going to work with a cold.

People who actually think they're journalists when they write nice things about films they like before they seem them.

Sweet.
Shudder wasn't really playing ball today. Didn't respect the VPN.

A new Shudder low. Turns out there are a number of films that aren't available on Shudder or Prime but are available on the Shudder Prime channel. WTAF?
He's been on a slope since 2015 and it's not going uphill!
Plus points for Herbet Lom and the beauty of Christine Kauffman but this feels like a limp adaptation of Poe's classic. There's a lovely set to go at as well.
It is very well made but, for me, lacks the charm of its predecessor and this story has been told many times before. And much better.
Nice concept with a lot of nice things in it. I'm not sure it quite works as the plot isn't sufficiently fleshed out, but it's eminently watchable. The effects are clearly dated though but nice use of light and shadows.
The Alabama Solution - The state of prisons in Alabama is sadly as bad as you'd expect. This does a great job of uncovering the truth and providing evidence which will no doubt be ignored.
Given they've spent all summer in the gym, yes
