The eating gives it away every time.

I mean, so do a lot of other things in the video, but it's the way the food never actually gets swallowed that gets me.

The end of federal enforcement of special ed laws. Some states - including MN - will likely be ok. But a lot of disabled kids in a lot of states are going to lose the education that federal law and decades of jurisprudence say they are owed.
Education Department wipes out special ed office in shutdown layoffs, union says
The Education Department laid off nearly everyone at the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services.

The headline isn't quite right. There were 3 shootings at various Mississippi homecoming activities. At least 6 people are dead and 20 were injured. In 2 of the shootings, suspects have either not been apprehended or identified.

It's too easy to get guns.

It's so frustrating! Why is it so hard just to look at the criteria, instead of whatever image people have in their heads of what they think a ND person looks like?

It's because he talks like an adult, and if you only ask him about things he's interested in, he'll talk your ear off. If you buy into a lot of dated stereotypes about autistic kids having flat affect and not being able to carry on a conversation, you'll think he couldn't be autistic.

I'm not kidding when I say I know almost an entire small town of people who will be parroting this horse shit by Monday, because they absolutely, without question believe it.

Yesterday I was told that the class I’m scheduled to teach this month, Confronting Oppression & Injustice, is no longer part of our curriculum. This is a required class yet there was no discussion, no faculty vote, just an email saying the class no longer exists. This is what it’s like in Texas now.

Unconstitutionally taking money that the law says must be spent on one purpose & using it for something else—when it's to establish personalist control over the FUCKING MILITARY—is about as dangerous a constitutional crisis/failure as you can imagine

The Office of Management and Budget sent a notification to Congress about their intent to use research and development funds to pay members of the military, two sources with direct knowledge tell NBC News.

A spokesperson for the OMB confirmed to NBC News that it plans to use the research and development funds and that there are two years' worth of funds available within the Department of Defense.

🧵 regarding the shutdown:

The Democrats aren’t being clear enough about this but we can be: this shutdown is about saving lives.

If we don’t reverse the Medicaid cuts (and the ACA subsidies on insurance bought through the exchanges) that Republicans made this year, people will die.

ICE secretly kidnap autistic boy during bathroom break—never notify parents.

Mother reported him missing a week ago—turns out ICE had him detained the whole time.

He was helping sell fruit and asked to go to the restroom—by the time she was done helping a customer he was gone.

If they're picking up someone for a serious crime, they should have a warrant.

And they almost never do.

Billionaires: Let's gobble up all the resources, create vast monopolies, underpay workers, gouge prices on everything, and make so much money on everyone else's backs, we couldn't build enough swimming pools to hold it all!

Also billionaires: Why do I have to see poor people in public? 😡😡😡

The reason SF has problems with "open air drug use" is because housing prices have been driven through the roof by the influx of high-paying tech jobs, the high proportion of investor buyers for all housing purchases, and a housing shortage.

A lot of this is the rich bleeding the city dry.

New — Video shared with me shows ICE officers in DC detaining a man on Friday.

Bystander filming asks man for his name. ICE agent lies and says he’s not allowed to speak to him “by law” and another says “We’ve arrested American citizens for being too close…If he gets any closer, put him in cuffs.”

I don't know what milestone we have to hit for folks to recognize the collapse of US democracy is already under way, but it is absolutely ludicrous that so many people keep pretending that what is happening now is anything other than authoritarian attacks on our entire political system.

This isn't new.

He started this in 2017. It was why he was voted out of office in 2020, and why he made a serious attempt to violently overthrow the elected government in 2021, in a desperate bid to hold onto power.

He has no intention of leaving office, repeatedly alluding to an illegal 3rd term.

I just don't know what bad thing folks are waiting for to call this situation for what it is: Trump is systematically destroying institutions, business and political leaders, and entire communities he deems a threat to his permanent power.
romancingnope.bsky.social
We need to be clear-eyed about how bad things are in this moment, not acting as if the attacks on free speech and criminalization of the opposition are future problems.

We can and should be aware it can get much worse, but let's not understate how bad things already are because it *could* be worse.

One media outlet the Trump admin has deemed an enemy has had its federal funding pulled.

The refusal to acknowledge white supremacy and eugenics as drivers are why white politicians, pundits, high-level career civil servants, and academics have been repeatedly blindsided by Trump's actions, consistently fail to predict what's next, and unable to grasp the weight of the moment.
