I think her expectations of stardom were wildly different from reality - and reality was never going to reflect what she had in mind. Her rise was not organic enough for that - Eurovision cannot give anyone an organic rise to fame. But she was way too young to independently think this up.

She’s often spoken about her disillusionment with her audiences not wanting anything but ‘J’aime la vie’. It’s part of the process - when I was at Erika Vikman this Friday most people only cared for a double gig of ‘Ich komme’. It’s how it works. Unfortunately, Sandra never seemed to comprehend it.

Cyndi Lauper did it with ‘She’s So Unusual’ and it was brilliant. And I’m sure there’ll be plenty of people who will have major nostalgia for it and will flock to it.

My advice for Sandra is to stop accepting the gigs she hates and start pushing for the ones she loves.

I mean at this point it’s also her own doing. By accepting that people only want to hear ‘J’aime la vie’, you’re not going to make anyone excited for your other music. If this really is a thing, then why not host an anniversary of the debut album where you sing everything from song 1 to 10 in order.

I just found out that the film reel I had lying around for 30 years features footage of my sisters when they were tiny tots. This is the late 70s.

I now saw the young faces of people I’ve known all my life, including my mother, in motion for the first time. I’m quite misty eyed.
