TBF it was a hard job to follow Eddie Confessor who held the post for over 23 years. Cnut Thegreat was successful but after his successors Harald & Hardy Cnut made little impression England didn’t appoint another Scandinavian boss until Sven-Goran Eriksson nearly 1,000 years later.

There's a huge difference between being seeded or not. Seeded sides have the first qualifying round at home. Possible home ties v Albania or North Macedonia are obviously much better options than away to anyone but particularly Italy who are almost certain to finish runners-up in their group.

Been looking at World Cup play-off permutations. If Scotland finish second in their World Cup group here’s what needs to happen in order to get a seeding in the play-off 1st round. Based on current rankings for UEFA. Scotland need four runners-up spots to be claimed by countries on the right.
