Football writer. Otherwise into the usual stuff. Politics, music, literature, art, film, TV, natural world, long-distance train travel, cricket, golf, boxing, tennis, pro-celebrity subbuteo, himalayan bungee jumping. You know, normal human pursuits.

Accidentally discovered a great way to uncover bots. Put something ridiculous in your profile. I've been asked who my favourite celeb is in pro-celebrity subbuteo and told by a couple of young ladies they enjoy Himalayan bungee jumping too.

How do you classify childhood? 14? 16? 18? If the latter then

Kilmarnock winning the Scottish League
Vietnam War
Moon Landing
Miners strike
Watergate

If 14 or 16 take out the last two and add Celtic's European Cup win and the Prague Spring

Fun Fact 2. Man City avoided relegation by one point. Actually that's not a fun fact. Fun would have been if they'd gone down.

Also first ever Fourth Division season.

On this day in 1958, Tottenham beat Everton 10-4 in the First Division.

The 14 goals scored is the joint most in an English top-flight match — along with Aston Villa 12-2 Accrington in March 1892.

The picture is of Everton's Jimmy Harris, who scored a hat-trick in defeat.

We're all familiar with Old Firm guff about the big name players they're trying to sign. Here's an earlier example. From September 1938.

Forget 'recent,' that's never been anywhere near enough to sustain full-time football. Article says there are four full-time sides in League One. Inverness CT for certain and I reckon Hamilton & QoS are the others but can't say for certain.

£65 per week in 1963 equates to just over £1,700 today. While that doesn't come anywhere near the average Championship player's salaries nowadays it would still be a high standard of living now (wish I was on it) so £65 in 1963 would have been a substantial sum, news.williamhill.com/football/cha...

Doesn't say when it was made but seeing as footage of Spurs v Man City is in colour it's obviously after they did the double in 1961. 😜

Some howlers in this short documentary. Celtic fans don't create the Hampden Roar, there weren't 70K at White Hart Lane every game and it's Dave Mackay pronounced I not A. Still an interesting glimpse of days gone by though. www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9eQ...
