Saw both of these a bit earlier. Absolute beauties and showing really well. Only a single Chiff and Goldcrest in Crane Dale. The one in the top sycamores had moved on.
Just two warblers seen at Hunley Hall GC this afternoon and both Yellow-browed! A trickle of Bramblings and Redwings plus a flock of Barnacles made for a great time @teesbirds.bsky.social @nybirdnews.bsky.social @northyorksbirds.bsky.social
A couple of Wheatears still on breeding territories near Commondale today. Also nice to see lots of Whooper Swans at Scaling Dam this morning with quite a few youngsters @teesbirds.bsky.social @nybirdnews.bsky.social @nybirdnews.bsky.social
Very little at Hunley as well. A few Goldcrests and some Chiffs was the sum total!
A long slog around Hunley & Warsett Hill, Brotton today with the highlights 2 Redstarts and a very smart Lesser Whitethroat. Nothing with yellow stripes unfortunately! @teesbirds.bsky.social @nybirdnews.bsky.social @northyorksbirds.bsky.social
A skein of about 90 Pink-feet just gone high south over Great Ayton. Brilliant to hear them chatting to each other and very much a sound of autumn @northyorksbirds.bsky.social @nybirdnews.bsky.social @teesbirds.bsky.social
If you had reported Red Kites, a pair of Ravens and a White-tailed Eagle around the Cleveland boundary three years ago people might have asked what hallucagenic drug you were using! Well the drugs worked just fine today with all three showing well @teesbirds.bsky.social @nybirdnews.bsky.social
One of the two immature White-tailed Eagles, that had been mucking about on Teesside today, flew over the Sleddale chevrons late afternoon on route to it's presumed roost area @teesbirds.bsky.social @nybirdnews.bsky.social @northyorksbirds.bsky.social
Despite nearby shooting by the Custodians of the Countryside Sleddale produced Hobby, Marsh Harrier, Red Kites, Common Buzzards, Sparrowhawk & Kestrels this morning. Also several Swifts over and loads of hirundines @teesbirds.bsky.social @nybirdnews.bsky.social @northyorksbirds.bsky.social
A large pale headed falcon interacting with several Kites over Sleddale this afternoon presented an interesting id challenge. Eventually came closer and allowed me to fairly confidently id it as an adult Saker. No sign of jessies or rings but unlikely to have come from the Eastern European steppes!
Thanks Ian. Seems likely it's come from Norfolk
Thank you Mike. I've reported it to the project coordinator.
Yellow wing-tagged (both wings) Marsh Harrier in Sleddale this afternoon. Unfortunately unable to read the black letters/numbers due to distance and heat haze. Anyone know anything about yellow tagged MH's? @teesbirds.bsky.social @nybirdnews.bsky.social @northyorksbirds.bsky.social
Great Egret, juv Avocet and a couple of Black-tailed Godwits at Scaling Dam late afternoon @teesbirds.bsky.social @nybirdnews.bsky.social @northyorksbirds.bsky.social
Meant to say summer 2020!
This was the immature male G639 so one of the two currently in Farndale. Info from Roy Dennis Foundation
This is unpaired female G318 originally seen as an immature in Farndale during summer 2000. Thanks to Neil Simms for passing on information.
Finally caught up with the adult White-tailed Eagle today. Flying around on moorland east of Farndale before settling on moor @nybirdnews.bsky.social @northyorksbirds.bsky.social
Ahead of the game as always Col!
White-tailed Eagle soaring over Baysdale late afternoon as viewed from Sleddale! A bit distant but might have been an adult bird? Will try and find out. @nybirdnews.bsky.social @northyorksbirds.bsky.social
Great evening at Skinningrove last night trying to catch Storm Petrels with @damianmoney.bsky.social 4 caught including a retrap. Several thermal imagers allowed us to see birds around the net. Thanks once again to Damian. @teesbirds.bsky.social @nybirdnews.bsky.social @northyorksbirds.bsky.social
