Could someone, preferably Derbyshire Constabulary, please explain why 3 months has elapsed between the incident and an appeal for information? Is this really the best you can do?

Attempt to downlist conservation status of Peregrine Falcons to allow international trade is thwarted at CITES Conference. #CITESCoP20

Good news for Peregrines, but not sure why UK voted to support this proposal!

Exactly. That would help ‘plug the hole’ whereas the reintroduction plan would simply open the tap with the drain left wide open.

Just one bird in mind this afternoon/evening at Cabo salinas, male Hen Harrier, one of my absolute favourites. Within five minutes of arriving I was enjoying excellent views! Also Dartford Warbler, a good number of waders, lots of Flamingos as per and a nice flock of Spoonbills.

Over £500,000 of public money spent on a doomed attempt to "reintroduce" European hen harriers to the UK.

It seems Natural England will do anything to avoid confronting the landowners, hunters, farmers and game keepers who persecute these birds. They also go to great lengths to avoid transparency.

For that kind of money you could hire half a dozen coppers to hang around a few carefully chosen locations (North Yorkshire maybe?) and help those Hen Harriers live longer and happier lives.

Hen Harrier found poisoned on a grouse moor in North Yorkshire.

Once again, details have only come to light through scrutiny of a spreadsheet - where's the publicity from the Police? This is supposed to be a national wildlife crime priority!

This is unlikely to be a random act of animal cruelty, but done to protect the interests of the shooting estates in the area. It's all about money.

It does bring in to question whether the national park legislation in Scotland is fit for purpose or are our national parks a sham. @raptorpersuk.bsky.social

Extensive effort by multiple law enforcement / science / conservation partners to determine this as a wildlife crime. But of course, yet again the offender hasn't been identified, charged, prosecuted etc. Something needs to change.

In almost all such cases of raptor poisoning, the poisoners are gamekeepers working for the owners of pheasant/grouse shooting estates.

Yet another way in which the behaviour of the ultra-wealthy damages the natural world.

This is a genuine question: Outside of the UK, does anyone know of another National Park where it is an annual event to release thousands of non-native birds? Or even occasionally? I only ask because the more I think about it, the more barking mad it sounds. #birds #nationalparks
