I guess those would be based on turkish Börek. But in addition to there not being any suasage rolls, getting some decent british sausage or some back bacon is impossible as well. Würste and Speck are just not the same 😆 I bring some back whenever I visit.

Might be an idea to start a new line, who knows, could end up being all the rage 👍

That's for sweets, though 😉
Cannae use that for savoury, no 😂

I'm racking my brain to remember if there are any batter covered meat (or meat adjacent) thingies in Germany at all. I'm not coming up with anything. There's french stuff like pork loin in filo pastry, or turkish pastries, nothing actually German though.

Hah, I managed to completely forget "radio" in my other reply. I listen here for inspiration sometimes:
www.nts.live
wfmu.org
www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/... (this one has been going downhill recently 😔 but still has decent programming during evenings and nights)
NTS | Don't Assume
NTS is a global radio platform broadcasting music from over 50 cities around the globe, live 24/7.

Checking out _briefly_ is maybe something to get used to. If it doesn't grab you, move on quickly, you don't have to listen to a whole track.
That can feel weird at first, "it might get better later", the choice these days is HUGE tho', so <shrug>
But then listen deeper and longer to what you like.

It defo more work these days. My taste is a bit left field, so I read the reviews in @thewiremagazine.bsky.social, but also follow all musicians & labels I like and can find on the socials, look at the daily.bandcamp.com, go to gigs to catch openers, and briefly check out all that looks interesting

Wow, first time ever an author I really love to read has won a Nobel. I heartily recommend his novel Herscht 07769, which takes a long hard stare at Germany, and the stories in Seiobo There Below are sublimely poetic, they're a delight to get lost in.

László Krasznahorkai has won the Nobel Prize in Literature!

Read his interview with Hari Kunzru in The Yale Reviewon apocalypse, art, and the urgency of the present—and his short story “An Angel Passed Above Us,” also published in TYR.

Fucking hell, that's right up there with thinking poverty is a reflection of poor life choices, that's despicable thinking through and through

I'd say all the collaborative web tools, where you get to see updates others make in your view immediately, make up a rather big chunk of web tools these days. How would those work without bi-directional stateful connections? In the early days this got faked using long polling, websockets are better

Woohoo! Found a place that does a massive plate of nachos with toppings in Berlin that's as good as what the Filmhouse Bar in Edinburgh did in the noughties. Must take a photo next time.

This whole "let the AI be your friend" thing is for people who treat their friends like shit, isn't it? It'll be nice and polite to you however annoying you are

Insomnia is so annoying. I know I'll get it if I go to bed before 11pm. But sometimes I get tired, lie down too early, then wake up at 3:30am and stay awake very tired for a few hours, before sleep finds me again. On rare occasions like tonight, my brain functions a teensy bit, allowing me to vent

I hate airports, but this was so much fun to read. I shall try to remember to look up at signs next time I'm at an airport. And I shall giggle as I imagine the candy-swappage among the staff. (If I buy sweets at one airport and they confiscate them at the next airport, do they eat them?)

A life update: this wound up paying off. I'm still applying to several jobs that are hopefully careers, but I've got my survival needs covered by a job at the airport that I'm apparently pretty good at.

And instead of being in an office alone, which was driving me mad, I see 20k people a day.

There is a line around this building to get to the line entrance to wait to get into this job fair.

At the airport. For airport jobs.

The playlists of those two first albums:

Wakage Ga Itaru (2019): youtube.com/playlist?lis...

Just the covers are 💥
Cover of 2019 album Wakage Ga Itaru. The four members of Atarashii Gakko are drawn manga cover style in front of a fence, through which dark blue-white blossoms and green foliage can be seen. They all have nose bleeds and are holding one hand to their faces. Cover of 2018 album Maenarawanai. The four members of Atarashii Gakko in walking profile under a covered walkway. They have been photographed upside down though and inserted into the picture, so their hair is standing straight up and they are holding their skirts down.

Still my absolute favourite Atarashii Gakko song. I still marvel at their early stuff, those two pre-2020 albums, one edgy song after the next.

The second half of this remix, which is quite different from the original, has some amazing dub bass, worthy of The Bug. But you'll need real speakers to hear it, a phone doesn't cut it. Guess I'll need to figure out now who Lafawndah is

Six weeks ago, I picked up a year-old tawny owl with a broken leg off the main road near our home and dropped him off at our nearest vet.

After a few days, I received one of the most bizarre phone calls I’ve ever had, asking “So when are you coming to pick up your owl?” 🧵

The past c.30 years has been the only time in history where almost all of the European continent has managed to live under universal-suffrage pluralist democracy.

And we’re throwing it away for tawdry lies.

I dunno, maybe it’s time we got some old Spanish people to tour Europe explaining what it’s like to get stuck with geriatric fascists running your country for forty years. Or some Portuguese who still remember how shit Salazar was. Or some Greeks who lived under the Colonels…

A photo of food items in a chilled cabinet at a supermarket. On the top shelf are some cakes decorated with green icing to look like frogs, but they have collapsed as though the frogs are melting.
