Oh wow! I do hope it's something like that for both of us, but I doubt it is with me - it occurs when the balcony door is shut and I wouldn't hear a bird noise outside.

The Nobel Peace Prize 2025 has been awarded to Venezuelan democracy activist María Corina Machado.

The Nobel Committee recognised her “struggle to achieve a just & peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.”

In other words, exactly the opposite of what Trump is doing to the United States.

Whew! I was worried they’d cave in and actually give Trump the Nobel Peace Prize to keep him happy for 5 minutes (because that’s totally the kind of person worthy of any prize for peace, etc).

Tyvarr min svenska är inte så bra ... jag har glömt mycket. Jag skulle vilje studera mer, men jag är jättetrött hela tiden!! However, I have been here long enough that I have done a lot of listening so my intonation is quite good and I can "sound" Swedish on a good day :)

Me too!! One explanation I can think of is that it has got colder and wetter so maybe some ... part of the building is shrinking? Something metallic? I would have noticed it before if it had been continuous. Do let me know if you find the source. It's enough to make us question our sanity.

This is horror movie level terrifying, but real. The last few days I've seen from various sources how this professor and his family are trying to flee the States because of the death threats they're getting - because his expertise is a history of antifascism. I hope you can get a flight soon, Mark.

We got our boarding passes. We checked our bags. Went through security. Then at our gate our reservation ‘disappeared.’

There is a repeated "bang" noise from the kitchen. It sounds like the tap is dripping into the noisy steel sink ... but it isn't. I've put a mug under the tap for several days to check. What IS it, then? It never does it when I'm actually in there ...
