LFC weren't buying him just for pre-season but for 5 years. A few weeks made zero difference. And he wasn't on strike. Newcastle did not want to be seen as a selling club to their fans or potential new signings hence the "he's on strike" narrative.

A much better performance from #LFC. 11 big chances tells its own story. Particularly good performances from Dom, CJ and Wirtz in a midfield that dominated Frankfurt. Hopefully this improvement continues in the coming weeks.

...more likely is that the fee was agreed weeks before and we gave them the time to find replacements. Also consider how many striker targets NUFC missed out on throughout the summer which dragged everything out. It was all a dance.

No but think about it. Newcastle were adamant they weren't going to sell. At 11pm on the eve of the deadline we hear that a fee has been agreed. Honestly, if you think he was striking and wasn't told to sit it out then I have a bridge to sell you. Newcastle could not take the risk of him getting injured and missing out on £125m.
