Is “oxidative stress” a useful concept in biology and medicine?

In this work, led by Nikos, we argue that the term “oxidative stress” is devoid of biological meaning and, even worse, misleading.

2/⚠️Interpretation is constrained by methodological heterogeneity in EMG acquisition and processing across studies.
Common issues:
• Electrode placement
• EMG Filtering and analysis
• Normalization procedures
• Task constraints: rep duration, contraction phases

1/ 🏋️‍♂️ Key results:
• ST > BF in Nordic hamstring exercise
• ST > BF in kettlebell swings
• BF > ST in prone-lying curls
• BF > ST in back extensions

🚨 Our new meta-analysis is out in Journal of Sports Sciences!

We reviewed 40 studies comparing semitendinosus vs. biceps femoris activation during hamstring strengthening exercises (knee vs hip based).
