So true! I think this is also very true with many if not all creative activities that require a long term investment. I've recently been so busy working on my live performances, fortunately it's over for now and I can go back to game audio 😅

Ugh that sucks. Luckily I mostly work on commissions, so I haven't experienced that yet. I definitely had tracks that didn't fit the vibe tho. I usually try to repurpose unfinished stuff. its a lot of work and some of those ideas still have solid potential, just not for that specific project.
