Small update thread because I feel bad not keeping folks in the know when I have the power to do so. I prefer way more to just kinda get on than to give excuses, but this kinda only scratches the surface. It's been a baaaaaaddddd month for me folks.

SO, er. Yeah. I was a bit premature in putting this statement out...! Honest-to-god, thought I was hitting a second wind, only to have a period of about 10 days immediately following this where I was barely able to stay awake for more than 4 hours at a time. Not ideal, to put it lightly.

HELLLLOOOOO GAMERS! Thanks for your patience during this extended hiatus. Our game plan for S4 is set and ready - just getting final pieces and a decent buffer in place before we're ready to commit to a schedule. More news as soon as we have it! - Sam

Genuinely adore that it's so low-poly, I'm not even certain it *is* an EV1. @auntiealiasing.bsky.social lend me your trained eye ✍️

I am so ready for that new one dude. Champing at the bit for more info but also very ready to just get surprised by whatever the hell shows up

For real. Literally the moment Covid hit I was like "ohhh fuuucccckkk this is gonna get so much worse isn't it". Lots of my friends had already jumped ship by mid-2017. Just really grim!!
sammycrow.bsky.social
Likes and views are so blatantly botted too. So much noise and activity, and yet nobody actually has anything of worth to say. Most of the cool people have peaced out to their own private spaces. I *know* it doesn't have to be this way but every resolve for change seems to go sour. 😶‍🌫️

Social media used to be fun but the vast majority treat it like an argument factory. It's really really sad!
sammycrow.bsky.social
It's kinda grim feeling like here is a little *too* quiet at times and wondering if I made a mistake deleting my Twitter account, then going back and remembering what I actually miss is a platonic ideal from like... 6+ years ago.

been having the music/games 'industry' parallel on the mind all the way through games week, and that always leads back to me thinking about steve albini being essentially my standard for the kind of person i want to be in a scene/community. heres a little something from a reddit ama he did ages ago
Connections don't mean shit. I've never had any connections that weren't a natural outgrowth of doing things I was doing anyway. Additionally, the people you might make connections with who work in the industry and value connections themselves, all those people are clueless assholes with no clout anyhow. You can tell because they think they can get somewhere with connections and spend their energy trying to make connections rather than being good at things, and being good at things is the only thing that earns you clout or connections.

It's a myth that you can get anywhere in music through connections. The guy on the other end of the connection has to be into what you're doing, and if you're doing it publicly and he's receptive, he probably hears about it on his own.

Don't worry about anything but making music you like. Everything else is bullshit.

i think people are very ready to blame xbox's current misfortunes on the xbox one without internalizing that phil spencer has had like 12 years to right the ship and his ideas were "what if we stopped trying to sell games and became a subscription service also what if we didn't ship any new games"

it's funny that the story has become "stores are REMOVING xbox consoles!!" back in my day Toys R Us would have a pile of 32Xes for $30 right as you walked through the entrance

Rob Fahey says that although handheld gaming devices are now a hot sector, nobody who isn’t Nintendo is actually selling many. "Building a dedicated handheld Xbox with a commitment to sell at least ten million units would have been pure hubristic madness."

Handhelds are in vogue – but they’re still a commercial minefield | Opinion
Once thought destroyed by smartphones, handheld gaming devices are now a hot sector; but nobody whose name isn’t Nintendo is actually selling many

"We've been getting along now, strangely. I'm used to going about things alone and while that's typically how I like it, I have to admit that I'm starting to enjoy the extra company.

Even if he does turn out to be a dirty little liar, what's the worst that could happen?" #fawful #flamesoffury

My friend hosted a spooky “Make Your Own Labubu” party where everyone cut the faces off stuffed animals and replaced them with new ones made with polymer clay and acrylic paint. Here are mine!
Two homemade Labubus. They were made out of identical tan stuffed rabbits with red bows around their necks. One has a sort of clay wolf’s face with giant teeth and a cluster of eight red eyes. The other one looks mostly normal, but three red eyes are peeking out of holes in its face

I do think not a lot of people appreciated how cool it was that back-compat games on GWG were free-to-keep though lol. They were slinging out some bizarre early XBLA titles like Cloning Clyde and Outpost Kaloki X towards the end.

The other weirdest thing is that the current base subscription is a better deal in many ways than Xbox Live Gold ever was (50+ games immediately available as compared to 2-4 a month that you lost access to without a subscription), but the Game Pass branding actually hurts the value proposition.

It does lead to weird situations where most of my save data for a game like Halo MCC carries from PC to console, but multiplayer is free on the former and pay-gated on the latter. Halo Infinite doesn't require a sub though!

It's not that they've ceased charging for online play either (in fact they tried to double the price of Xbox Live Gold a few years ago before being shamed out of it). But they have ceased charging for free-to-play stuff at least.
sammycrow.bsky.social
You also ever think about how they totally killed Xbox Live as a brand within the past couple years and now it's either "the Xbox network" or "Xbox Game Pass Core/Essential"? What a strange company.
sammycrow.bsky.social
You ever think how funny it was that people used to get banned from Xbox Live until 2099? Who's laughing NOW, numbnuts?!

Oh yeah it's a Rouge-like deckbuilder. You fly around the level collecting cards but the radar only beeps for one of them at a time

I think this interview with the Mario Land 2 devs already went around a few months ago but we're bringing it BACK baby (via shmuplations.com/supermariola...)
Screenshot of a written interview:

Speaker: There’s a lot of really charming enemies in Super Mario Land 2. I especially liked the “Be” flies from Tree Zone and Mario Zone. Where did they come from?

Hosokawa: They’re impossible to step on. We call them “the flies that do nothing”!

Kiyotake: I love useless characters that do nothing in games, so the first time I saw the Be fly I burst out laughing. I said, I know there will be people who hate this, but let’s leave it in anyway!

Totaka: I loved that character too. I put extra effort into his sound effects. (laughs)

Kiyotake: If we had had more time, I would have liked to program in some way for the player to be able to stomp on them.

Totaka: No way, it’s better to leave it this way!!!

The only major restriction you might hit is anything with "kernel-level anti cheat", but check the site and you'll probably get good answers on if there are workarounds.
