I think all the interspersed material was handled very well, once you got used to it happening. I thought it was going to be a more straightforward telling of his tale than it seemed. Even so, I found it extraordinarily disturbing, especially since this one person became the basis for so many films.

Fair criticism. I had never heard of him before all this. The only sense I got at the end was that they tried to humanize him by showing that after all, he was a person too, despite being astronomically horrifying.
