Thinking of Christian nationalism, what makes a nation-state Christian? I’m reminded of Voltaire’s comment on the Holy Roman Empire: it was neither holy, nor Roman, nor an empire. Applied to our current situation, the US most certainly isn’t Christian nor even American, save for our worst impulses.
