just heard someone say "VIX was signaling a level of complacency..." it was actually the exact opposite! VIX, VX were sitting well above realized vol as the market went up everyday with little movement. if anything, the VIX was saying, "we don't really trust what's happening here"

so dispersion levels reached liked 99th percentile. and index vol was so low, but VIX/VX couldn’t go down. they were probably sniffing out that this was getting dangerous, and *something* was going to come along and cause a problem
