Kept forgetting to mention a seemingly minor issue every time I brought my car in for maintenance. Car died at a stop light. Had to pay for a tow and diagnostics to discover it was the battery.

The answer: Object permanence issues are REAL. Yes I still love you, yes I would still do anything for you. You haven’t heard from me because you haven’t been right in front of me and life is lifing right now. I’m not ignoring you and I want to hear how you’re doing, but executive dysfunction said later.

First of all, figuring out that I have ADHD as opposed to being ‘smart but lazy’ like I was told my whole life. Also, my whiteboard for lists, a collection of treats for completing tasks, and a new way of cleaning when overwhelmed. Walk by the mess, pick up 3 things, then move on. Rinse, repeat.

Think of your executive function as a vastly overworked assistant, trying to stay on top of everything at once. Things get filed wrong, or lost entirely, and there’s always something new demanding attention. And every so often they leave the desk completely and you’re just … stuck.

ADHD paralysis, or executive dysfunction. I am not actually (all that) lazy. Sometimes I’m sitting on the couch with me brain begging, pleading, cussing out my body to move but I just … can’t.

Homemaking. I have been pouring into my younger son so much I had no energy for anything else. Now his mental health is in a good place, and I’ve gotten my mental health better and some of my energy back. It’s all cleaning, organizing and cooking real meals over here.
