I did not let my kids play these platforms until age 13. At that time they saw the negative effects on their peers and said no. The closest were private Minecraft severs where I knew the kids and their parents. I don't think the responsibility is on the platforms, its up to us as parents to say no.

A partial answer suggested by research on 1960s civil disobedience is that certain kinds of protests—particularly those met by state violence—can generate sympathy and redefine contours of majority.

One example from Taeku Lee’s work on constituency mail following Selma to Montgomery marches:

Excerpt from Lee (2002, fig. 5.2, p. 127) describing how letters reflected public reactions to civil rights activism. One letter from a woman in Mankato, Minnesota, written in November 1963, is quoted:

“You may be losing some votes by taking a strong stand for civil rights, but certainly you are winning some as well. Take me, for example: I am a Republican, and in the last few months something very surprising has happened to me. Suddenly, I am on your side, and not just on this one issue…All of this is a dramatic reversal for as staunch a Republican as I have always been (and probably will be again), and I know that it results from your stand on civil rights” (Lee 2002, 117–118).

This expands a similar purge recently at the Naval Academy library, in Maryland. Last month, civilian Navy officials, following orders originating from Mr. Hegseth, pulled from shelves books including one that critiqued “The Bell Curve,” a 1994 text that argues that Black men and women are genetically less intelligent than white people. But the academy kept “The Bell Curve” itself on its shelves.
