7) Throw-Away Costs are increasing tearing out new retail built in 2014 worth $12M, the Civic Centre and North Side Stands value at $100M, $10M in lease disruption costs paid to OSEG, $23M from repairing the arena roof, and $8M to remove the greenspace and Ms. Anholt’s artwork.
6) More Parking is being added, 140 spots paid for by the city for the private developers towers, 180 new stalls for the event centre and moving away from the full pedestrianization of Aberdeen Square.
5) Council-Directed Affordable Housing Funds Being Siphoned off to Lansdowne 2.0 - Affordable housing contributions should be $22.75 million but instead are only $14.4 million.
4) This is a 50 Year P3 Deal to 2075 – It locks Ottawa in with much worse conditions if the city wanted to end the partnership with most of the non-guaranteed revenues to come after 2052.
3) Ottawa Charge and PWHL say Lansdowne 2.0 is “not viable for us”. With limited seating and a focus on premium expensive seats, the new designs don’t function well for the team.
2) The original Sports Teams - The REDBLACKS and 67’s are only guaranteed to be in #Ottawa for 7 more years to 2032.
NEW- We’ve discovered 7 concerning issues with the new information on Lansdowne 2.0 released by the city just one week ago-

1) $17.4 million per year (not $4.3 million) is being carved out of Ottawa’s Budget until 2070 to pay for Lansdowne 2.0 debt ($696 million in payments).
My comments on Lansdowne 2.0

The total cost, the so called ‘cost of doing nothing’, the engineer reports on building conditions, and the alternative are all discussed. www.betterlansdowne.ca/more_info?ac...

At today’s Council meeting, a motion from Councillor Lo to suspend the rules to add a time-sensitive Lansdowne motion failed, so councillors did not have the opportunity to vote on it.

Here's how it went down and what Councillor @shawnmenard.bsky.social had to say:
Here’s a secret the city doesn’t really want you to know about - they have already taken out over $300 million in debt authority for Lansdowne 2.0 before the project is approved by Council.
It has been a long wait for residents - on Friday morning we should see the Main Street at Colonel By intersection open in both directions again in addition to Greenfield ave open in both directions. New sidewalks and cycle tracks. 30km/hr streets.
The city has said in its report that “capacity” in the new Lansdowne arena/event centre will be 6600. That’s seats AND standing room. Previous reports cited seating. Seats are 5850 in the new event centre. Seats in the existing civic centre are 8585.

This morning, Mayor Sutcliffe held a press conference outlining the modified Lansdowne 2.0 recommendations before city councillors or the public had access to them. That’s unacceptable. Transparency and respect for Council should come before media rollouts.
The cost for Lansdowne 2.0 is up. Debt is increasing from $331 million to $340.2 million and total project cost is up to $483 million (this includes parking and the retail podium costs). #Ottawa #Ottnews

This story doesn’t mention that all 3 of these minor error audits were brought by a former Taggart Development executive who cost the city a lot of time and money by going after people critical of his developments and Tewin in particular. ottawacitizen.com/news/2022-ca...

The alcohol in parks pilot program in #Ottawa is winding down at the end of October. Early indications are that it was successful with very few problems. The city will undertake a full review with Bylaw Services and make recommendations for next year. #ottnews
I’m at a bike share conference today and very enthusiastic to bring this momentum to the City of #Ottawa. Some news coming soon for our city, Gatineau and the NCC. #Ottnews
Thank you to the hard working people in bylaw service in the city of #Ottawa. You are greatly appreciated.
The new Heron Park Community Building is taking shape. I’m so proud of the work the community, my office, the construction team and city staff have done to make this a reality.
