No more fitting metaphor for this moment in America than Gilles Barbier’s 2002 wax sculptures of aging superheroes, L’Hospice, at Miami’s WAREhouse. Took these in spring 2024 and have been thinking about them ever since. We have no superheroes, only ourselves.

Pleasant day out in my neighborhood in Chicago. There was a farmer’s market and people are out strolling, chatting, and sitting out on porches. Just like every weekend.

Except now most of us are wearing whistles to alert neighbors if unidentified guys in tactical gear show up to kidnap people.

In Chicago, four vehicles descended and eight ICE agents moved in to kidnap a child.

She screams, “I’m 15,” as ICE yanks her from the car and kneels on her neck.

This is not about immigration enforcement.

It's about terrorizing Americans.

This is my neck of the woods — northern edge of Chicago into Evanston and Skokie. A Catholic church east of me about a mile is on lockdown with ICE agents nearby. Every morning starts with sirens and helicopters. We are definitely occupied.

Just saw an announcement from a kids soccer group that ICE agents have been spotted in the area, so it’s OK to skip today’s games if people are scared.
The MAGA assault on our community is intolerable and has nothing to do with making people’s lives better.

There are reports that the *entire* office of special education at the US Dept of Education has been cut. These hardworking folks ensure kids with disabilities get equal access to a quality education.

WGN, this woman’s employer, is now reporting she was not charged with any crimes and was released.

DHS said earlier she was arrested for assault for throwing objects at agents.

George was just trying to get to work.

ICE pepper-sprayed him, dragged him from his car, locked him in a detention center, and placed him on suicide watch. He even missed his young daughter’s birthday in the process.

Hegseth sucks. The Qataris suck. But we aren’t giving Qatar an airbase in Idaho. It’s building dorms etc. at an existing base to train them on F-15s we sold them, just like Singapore already has there. Common arrangement we have with lots of countries. This one was already being planned under Biden.
