Why does everyone keep calling it “The Epstein Ballroom?” Please stop repeating “The Epstein Ballroom” because it is not called “The Epstein Ballroom!” Don’t tell the news that it’s called “The Epstein Ballroom” and please don’t repost this!!!!!
South Bend Tribune, October 22, 1956. This area was evidently full of Elvises, since there was going to be an Elvis Presley Contest onstage at the Palace Theater on November 9.
South Bend Tribune, October 22, 1956. Playing at the Club Normandy in downtown Mishawaka: The Nomads, featuring the "Elvis Presley of Michiana"!
A Tr*mp voter who has been openly transphobic toward me in the past (even beyond voting for Trump, which is by definition a transphobic act) asked me to friend him on Instagram, which would allow him to see my locked posts. I have chosen not to, because I do not want to and am not required to.
My hot bothsidesism take: I wish both sides would stop using the phrase "pearl-clutching." It feels misogynistic regardless of who's saying it.
I expected more of a fight about uninstalling Copilot.
Setting up a new laptop, and I’ve hurt Edge’s feelings.
Meanwhile, testosterone was so plentiful that cis dykes were taking it on a dare, which goes to show that male privilege kicks in real early.
There were countless gates being kept and fiery hoops to jump through for trans women to get safe access to estrogen, and many of us were still battling the conventional wisdom--promulgated by transphobic gay cis men, esp. drag queens--that we were just delusional f*ggots who were going too far.
A cis dyke friend once told me that when she worked at Good Vibrations in San Francisco in the early 2000s, there was intense peer pressure from other employees to shoot testosterone to prove she was butch. Oh, we do have fun!
Starlog #40, November 1980. All true! Star Wars fans never jump up and down and scream excitedly at anything, and they are all about "message literature," which Star Trek definitely is. And not a single fan of either is a mental adolescent, nope nope nope.

when trans people take HRT to feel normal: “look at these depraved sex freaks performing their sick fetish in public, we should bully them out of existence”

when cis ppl take HRT so they can fuck real good:
Muskegon Chronicle, October 22, 1956.

Pat Boone is a good singer and will be around for quite a while, but he will never be anything like Elvis. We think Elvis is the best.

ELVIS PRESLEY FAN CLUB, North Muskegon.
Calgary Herald, October 22, 1966.

I'm disarmed by a reader who writes to say he agrees there are too many science fiction series on television but who objects to my berating Star Trek all the time. The point is that the field may be overcrowded but Star Trek still may be the best of the lot.

Liberals when candidates defend trans people: "We can't do this, it's too unpopular."

Liberals when candidates have a nazi ss tattoo: "it's ok, not all candidates are perfect."

Do y'all hear yourselves?!
Toledo Blade, October 22, 1976. Two different ads in the same day's paper for John Carpenter's ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13, both of which (as was the style of movie marketing back then) promise more action than the film delivers.
Variety, October 22, 1969. Back when America Was Great you could put scare quotes around the word racism because what does it even mean anyway?
While my mother and I waited at the Kaiser pharmacy today, a woman struck up a conversation with me about my bootlaces, which are Spark Purple and Teal from Derby Laces. This sort of thing happens a lot, but I always like it when my mother gets to witness it. I think it helps put her mind at ease.
You have no idea, 2017 Sherilyn. You do not have the slightest conception of how thoroughly the bad guys are going to win.
Sacramento Union, October 21, 1956.

MARY LOU CRAIG, of Sacramento, who says she isn't a clothes-tearing, weeping kind of Elvis Presley fan, displays some of the fan letters she has received in behalf of the fabulous young entertainer. Mary Lou is California representative of the Presley fan clubs.
Jackson Citizen Patriot, October 21, 1956. Speaking of midnight shows, tickets for the midnight premiere of Elvis Presley's debut film LOVE ME TENDER at the Michigan Theatre were going fast! The $1.25 ticket price is about $15 in 2025, or the average cost of a matinee.
I just love how the original Star Trek series was recognized at the time as simultaneously a show for children (fair) and j/o material for their fathers (also fair).
Orlando Evening Star, October 21, 1966.

Below him were two entries designed for kiddie consumption, "Green Hornet" and "Star Trek."

If the school-age children were eliminated from the approval group of such shows as "Green Hornet" and "Star Trek," not much would be left.
