Yep, that’s what it is in Oz and it works well. Also, voting on a Saturday rather than a Tuesday helps.
“UC Berkeley… has had enormous power in shaping the social and physical environment of its surrounding community. Because this university sits at the nexus of public good, profit, and plunder, our project is history not only *for* the public but also *of* the public.”
Berkeley history graduate students reimagine their campus as a public history site. Topics include CA Indigenous history, relationship between CA and Asia/Pacific, campus policing, & campus protest. This is such an amazing project! @historians.org #AHAPerspectives

I’m excited to be joining the line-up for this Sunday’s teach in in defense of history and museums. There is much to learn and do, but we’ll do all of it better together.

Hopefully I’ll see you there.

“Nothing changes the fact that ordinary Americans from across the country helped to make this exhibit happen by standing up for racial justice and declaring that the Confederate cause no longer represents our collective values and understanding of history.”
“This administration can erase African American history from websites; order exhibits removed from Smithsonian museums and National Park Service sites; and even order a Confederate monument returned to Arlington National Cemetery…”

Feeling very proud of my Wikipedian-in-Residence colleagues who tackled an armed suicidal man. Andrew Lih, Wikimedia Laureate 2022, prised a loaded gun from his hand. Richard and Andrew are bookish computer guys who work in libraries. That takes some guts.

At Civic Hall in Union Square, a man with a gun walked onto the stage at a Wikipedia conference.

Richard Knipel, CUNY's Wikimedian-in-Residence, jumped the gunman and, with others' help, saved the day. Gift link

Chris Van Hollen for Senate Minority Leader.

We need someone at the helm who understands the fight we're in and is willing to fight it. As far as I've seen, no one in the Senate Dem caucus is speaking with more clarity or conviction.
These are the same kind of weasels who would’ve called George Washington & America’s revolutionaries “terrorists.” They spend their days sucking up to King Trump & demonizing peaceful protest just as some in America sought to appease King George III.

Looking forward to No Kings Day.
Johnson describes planned No Kings rally as ‘hate America,’ ‘pro-Hamas’ gathering
Organizers largely blew off the rhetoric, but some Democrats online criticized the tone.

This sounds like an amazing book, but “Due to new U.S. customs regulations, we are unable to accept orders from the United States."

We are kept further from new knowledge again.

“But the data out of Montgomery County, Maryland makes one thing unmistakably clear: this crusade is not a mass movement. It’s the obsession of a vanishingly small minority…”
"99.97 percent of families, even when given the option, chose to let their children learn about LGBTQ+ people."
Nice result, and it reinforces everything Montgomery County said to SCOTUS before its theocrats made their dehumanizing ruling. open.substack.com/pub/erininth...
Only 0.03% Opt Out Of LGBTQ+ Education In Maryland After SCOTUS Gives Them A Right To
After SCOTUS gave families a right to opt out of LGBTQ+ education, Montgomery County, Maryland is reporting only 43 families took them up on it.

We built NPR. We built PBS.

It seems to me we should also build National Public Index.

A public search engine for a public web.
These are really great. Could people order custom versions of their own row house? Because that could be amazing.
This sounds so good.

Woke up to discover that the roads were blocked on all sides by the Maryland Cycling Classic, then proceeded to have an absorbing, if unexpected, day watching some great cycling—dashing from the TV to the street when the riders passed by. It was a much needed distraction and a lovely day.
