I don't know that the developer is ever going to be able to do a better solution for this, because it seems like an OS limitation more than anything. Anyway, I've got screens above and below my main one and just adapted my workflow to drag to the left instead of up & down

Yeah, that's how it works. There is currently no other option but horizontal, with the main monitor having to be on the inside and additional monitors on the outside. Sorry, should have been more clear to read the instructions about that before buying if that was going to be an issue.
