Reminds me of going mad for any Crowded House records I could get my hands on and making it my mission to find all Woodface singles at record fairs. What a b-side! My first realisation that NF discarded songs were almost as strong as those that made the albums.

It’s quite unlike any other Crowded House track. Not sure if it’s a great choice for the album but then I am rather fond of it. I kind of see the whole album in pairs, in terms of mood and feel, and see it as a companion piece for I Feel Possessed.

And this is why I love it! Despite the sad true story, I love the dark feel of it and they can really go for it played live. Possibly my favourite on the debut album.

I guess it could be seen as a bit of a novelty song and has probably unfairly defined how the group is viewed by casual radio listeners. But there is lyrical muscle to it beyond the chorus and it’s an emotional uplift. I am in love with the tinkling piano that trickles between the chorus and verses.
