You gotta consider the battle to end racism & all forms of discrimination as an essential struggle impacting all human rights issues. Ppl who are targeted don’t have a choice. IF you have the choice, it’s not a matter of getting around to it. It’s a right here, right now necessity.

Theres real power in this message 4 many of us who are survivors of serious #trauma. It’s also what I try to help #prisoners w/ when they hit points of despair. They tend to hear abuse & degradation all day long … after a while, it’s nearly impossible not to internalize.

In ANY nation w/ #police force & prison system, there are ALWAYS those who are disproportionately targeted & abused. (Where I live, #Roma roughly 1/4 of #prison population but 0.2% of whole country!) Read here re: deaths of #Aboriginal ppl in custody in #Australia. Prison stats also off-the-scale.

What’s at stake for average Finn? Everything, really. As gov’t moves to embrace hypercapitalist norms, the wealthy are rewarded for avarice while we, the poor & working class, lose any foothold. SUPO surveillance will be handed over w/ more ease & w/ less prerequisite 4 proof or evidence 4 data.

3/ Now, the #Finnish #socialwelfare society has largely collapsed & even most #Finns don’t grasp broad int’l implications. In interrogations, I was ridiculously accused of being a communist by virtue of Finnish ancestry. (The CIA’s underlying mandate is 2 destabilize “communism,” so they’re elated.)

I am alarmed by ppl who are capable of simultaneously opposing torture & suffering & them wishing it upon others. Netanyahu & co must be ICC tried for war crimes (as must Hamas leaders). But I can’t wish torture on anyone. NOT EVEN THOSE WHO TORTURED ME. I know the horror; I don’t want it repeated.

Every generation venerates new idols. Money has been an idol for a long time & #socmedia influencing has become one in its own right. I’m never happier than when I’m completely divorced from the digital world. But I do not worship, emulate or even admire it. It’s a regrettable facet of modern life.

Much of #whitesupremacy is rooted in envy. They’ll never admit it, but their actions reveal their deep down desires. Tanning is only the most obvious of examples; it goes far deeper than that. The Finnish #NeoNazi founder Holappa even had a Somali Muslim gf, on the DL.

Oh, I know that feeling. But mine is also based on reality; nearly everyone HAS abandoned me after using me for whatever agenda. Family. Friends. Colleagues. The worst was losing ppl when I was targeted bc of research into next book re: torture in US & then after exile when I got chronically ill.

Absolutely right on. TRULY Well written. Thank goodness someone else is saying this as well. I have been horrified to see ppl treating thus issue as though it is a new phenom. The history is there: just the targeted groups vary but trust that Black & Brown & poor ppl are always on that list.
