I'm going to start calling essays like this "odes to whiteness" because the underlying premise is that they are like this because they don't anticipate any social cost to smelling bad.

This one is v. frustrating because it tries to lump in perfumes with the broader (problematic) beauty industry

I’m turning 50 next year. I rarely wear deodorant anymore. Many women I know have stopped, too. We don’t talk about it, but I catch it in the air — a faint musk of onion, goat, curry, mustard, salt, sage, fennel, ozone, and the muddy wet marrow of the earth itself. I’m kind of obsessed with this collective stink: the animal symphony of skin, of women being women, punk and unfiltered, taking up space with their scent. Raw, unapologetic BO. The more I live among it, the more I see it not as a hygiene failure but as a radical act of self-acceptance. It’s not polite, but it’s honest — and that feels hot. Hotter, even, than anything a Guess ad ever promised.

Look very carefully and you will see an ant emerging from the weevil-hole on this hickory nut with a load of tasty nutmeat. Multiple ants were going back and forth doing this. Never thought about this interaction before!

35+ and been in the nursing home for rehab and can't stress this enough, every day I was thankful for keeping up with those ballet excercises. It's easier to function on .5 working leg when that .5 is strong and flexible

And these millipedes have some seriously gorgeous color morphs. Check the paper to see the full suite, here's just one species, Apheloria virginiensis. But of course, there is a lot of mimicry, so color pattern generally can't be trusted.

Post going around about shared housing makes me think about how rare living alone is in my community, like I've usually been the odd one out for having my own apartment or house. One of my old bandmates lived in the closet of a house w 30 other people at one point 😂

Sometimes I get really grumpy about my mangled-looking leg but it's probably not fixable without surgery and there's so much I'd rather spend that money on plus I don't ever want surgery again if I can help it so I'm stuck in the messed-up looking injured goblin realm 😩
