Very good news from the east of Germany, where the far-right (AfD) has its strongest base - the AfD got soundly defeated in two mayoral elections, in places where they were trying to use the presence of people seeking asylum as a decisive issue. Many voters rejected that outlook. That's hopeful.

Wieder ein schlechter Tag für die AfD im Osten.
Deklassiert in der OB-Stichwahl in Frankfurt (Oder) und sogar in Eisenhüttenstadt - wo sie sich echte Hoffnung machte - deutlich verloren.

“In Schöneberg, theatres, cabarets, and clubs catered to homosexuals, lesbians, transsexuals, and Berlin’s liberated sub-culture. The Nazis attempted to eliminate all traces of that sub-culture, but today the district is once again a centre of gay life.”

If it were you returning then you would presumably be seeing it through the same lens (cognitive apparatus / memories) as before. That’s interesting too since our memories change and deteriorate in the same way as history - so many details would have been lost over time. But not the main narrative.

It’s history. Forget it at your peril.

"Italian photographers Stefano Corso and Dario-Jacopo Laganá visited more than 200 former military locations with one goal: to document the physical traces of the Red Army in Germany."

Postcard of the modernist Kosmos Kino in East Berlin, one of the largest cinemas in the GDR. Inaugurated on October 5, 1962 and located on Karl-Marx-Allee, it was used as a premiere cinema until 1989. The building still hosts events and conferences today. #berlin

Actually only that short section is cobbled. The rest is pure asphalt and a joy to cycle on
