Actually very proud to announce that I am doing a thing: a new book series called "TV Matters" with Intellect! Television / media / pop culture scholars, take note and get in touch if you wanna write about TV! Please share far and wide.

This Atlantic piece on AI and dating works oddly well with my review

And besides: Would you really want human connection to be so straightforward that a machine could crack it, just like that? For now, love evades understanding—which means that finding someone will remain, much of the time, a pain in the ass. It also means that when a connection is made, it will be so distinctive that no one ever could have predicted it. Yet despite that, that film has a happy ending, and All of You just offers heartbreak. Both however seem to arrive at the same conclusion: that love isn’t something you can plan, or even worse, artificially create. At a time of Tinder, Hinge and Bumble, and now, the terrifying addition of people falling in love with chatbots, that seemingly trite message arguably holds newfound value.

Or have some of your peers know. I think you may be overestimating the parents role when it also includes people in their early 20s who may long be at college or similar

I also had vastly different opinions on things like this 15-20 years ago it‘s also just life experience, I mean they have a lot more online access than even I did too so they do get more opinions than their parents

I also wonder if the trend to buy merch way oversized is just rehashing baggy clothes from the 90s and y2k or if there‘s something else to it given we‘re also getting body image bs from that time back but I just don‘t know enough about them kids these days I‘m afraid (I really mean the under 23s)

Like not only do some people not recognize metaphors about anal (I hope they‘re just too young and that‘s fine!!) but there‘s just sth about how that generation (and alpha) skews prudish while still loving her music & are often anti alcohol while she does ads for Johnnie Walker & has drinking songs

Unfortunately the algorithm on Instagram and TikTok is compelling me to think about Gen Z fans of Sabrina Carpenter and their relationship to sex and alcohol as well as body image cause there is A LOT GOING ON

Which thanks now makes me realize just how much 27 Dresses kinda lifts from it just that nobody else is Julia Roberts

Watching 27 Dresses for the first time in a while. Thoughts will end up on @infrontofira.bsky.social!

SAG-AFTRA is continuing negotiations re: AI and I wish we‘d think about this more in academia but then we‘d also need functioning unions 🙃 Or more scholars who actually consider this a threat. If you agree and haven‘t signed this…

Yes thankfully - I just need to catch up with the work at some point; but at least that‘s the net positive, I can also grade that MA thesis on Sunday or do whatever reading my brain won‘t let me do today

I‘m doing 4 hours one way if you count it door to door and it‘s on time and I‘m lucky that a lot of semesters it wasn‘t every week and it‘s not during semester break and YET. I did back and forth yesterday cause I also want to limit overnights for various reasons and I‘m fucked today.

I know there was a convo on this here before but it wasn‘t nearly big enough. Like it‘s not just the money and the time while you‘re on the trains / away from home for work it‘s also how much recovery time I have after. It used to be easier but I‘m older & post burnout, and it takes a serious toll.

Committing crimes with Julie Andrews would be elite

Omg lol I unfortunately get all of them but have you seen him „singing“ Sweet Caroline?! We reached new lows
smittermeier.bsky.social
This is probably autocorrect for solving but I love either version 😂😂
smittermeier.bsky.social
I had lots of weirdass dreams tonight and one somehow involved being at the Emmys and watching a choir perform, then telling off Bavarian minister president Markus Söder when he wanted to join in singing

Are there people over 30 who actually function after a day of long train rides, asking for a friend
