Part of the joy of going to the desert is spending time in our local San Diego mountains coming and going. Black oaks won’t “turn” for awhile and turkeys are always around.

👏🏻 The males are spectacular. Polygynous too. We never see the males as often as the females because they’re so busy supporting two and three nests at the same time in good years. Quite a cad.

You’re absolutely right. They are fantastic to watch and they have a facial disc like an owl which makes them different from other diurnal raptors & assists them in hearing prey. I live near an estuary and love watching them hunt. Beautiful shot Janet.
