update: got a 650w corsair PSU today. the only (audible) constantly moving parts in this entire machine are now my hard drive and the CPU fan. its almost reminiscent of a G4 cube

I ugraded my PC, so here's the changelog for Sockbox 4:
32GB RAM (1866mhz for now)
Fedora 42 installed for win10 dual boot
A disturbing amount of dust removed
The power supply is now a slight fire hazard and I'm unsure if its fan is working
New Cat5e run directly to modem

throwback to when i was in like 4th grade or so
we had a recess period before school started, beyblade was the hot shit at the time, but nobody could fit an arena in their backback, so we'd play on the flat end of a slide despite having to share it with kids actually using the slide. good times.
