This is sarcasm for those who are unfamiliar with me. Sad that needs to be said.

I'll add idk who the people in the quoted video above are, but they aren't the priests. That account is heavily biased towards amplifying leftist protestors who show up for any & every protest.
somanymonkeys.bsky.social
We can absolutely use that framework ourselves & this is a great example of Catholics doing it.
somanymonkeys.bsky.social
I realized a while ago that the anti-choice & anti-LGBTQ movements we identify as "evangelical" rely on Catholic thinkers to construct a coherent framework. The Church has been making rules & constructing logical arguments to defend them longer than any institution in the western world.

When the leaders of that type of action are easily depicted as "professional agitators", you aren't going to convince normies they should get an exception.

This is the Rabbi Ben in question. He led a group away from the ICE facility to try to block the exit ramps from the 290 Expressway, presumably because it would be used by ICE vehicles coming from the city.

I'll let more knowledgable folks debate when civil disobedience is protected speech.
somanymonkeys.bsky.social
It works better when the law being broken are directly tied to the protest. Black people illegally sitting at segregated lunch counters was direct. Protestors blocking an expressway exit used by a lot of people besides ICE is muddy.
somanymonkeys.bsky.social
That's fair! What isn't fair is Bunch reducing it to Pritzker "backing police fascism".

Part of the power of civil disobedience lies in the belief that accepting the consequences is a moral imperative that exposes the immorality of what's being protested.
somanymonkeys.bsky.social
This is correct, but the instruction is it should only be done out of necessity. In this case, it seems the mass & consecration of the Host occurred at a nearby church. Giving communion to people who can't receive it in church is standard Catholic practice.

To be clear, religious leaders were not doing the denying.
somanymonkeys.bsky.social
That depends on the Trump administration also taking that path. I'm not super-optimistic they will, but do think the optics of protestors throwing objects & blocking streets works against us in the avoidance of invoking Insurrection & the public opinion of it's justification.

A Congressional candidate who promised not to be like all the "establishment" candidates who constantly bug you about donations.

Imagine how insane this site would get if Hakeem Jeffries posted this.

@jbpritzker.bsky.social understands this. He's peeling off Republican Governors who understand the precedent Abbott is setting can come back against them.

Idk who blocked who here, but this doesn't seem like someone who should block you or vice versa.
somanymonkeys.bsky.social
Yes, ISP are discouraging & arresting people who want to lead groups of protestors to block roadways because Pritzker understands it's effectively an accelerationist action.

I'm just going to suggest if you don't want to play into Trump's excuse to invoke the Insurrection Act, you shouldn't be encouraging protestors blocking roads.

Fair play if you think accelerating that process is advantageous, but explain your rationale & endgame.
somanymonkeys.bsky.social
Also, ISP & Broadview police have been putting a damper on roving overnight protests because it's in close proximity to residential neighborhoods.

People should be out there, but black bloc tactics are hurting the cause, imo.
somanymonkeys.bsky.social
This is local to me, so I've been following closely on sources beyond here. Pritzker sent ISP to get in between protestors & ICE. The big sticking point has been groups of protestors who are trying to block roads. ISP aren't bothering protestors otherwise.

somanymonkeys.bsky.social
The protestors have been trying to block roads around the ICE facility in Broadview. If you support that as justified civil disobedience & want Pritzker to allow it, you should be honest & say you are fine with Trump using it as an excuse to use the Insurrection Act.

Fwiw, the pizzas were for Illinois State Police, not ICE.
somanymonkeys.bsky.social
To be clear- the van was bringing pizza to the Illinois State Police who were there to keep protestors from blocking roads, not ICE. Protestors blocking roads to impede ICE is the main justification behind the legal case for invoking the Insurrection Act to militarize National Guard in Illinois.

Salvation Army seen feeding ICE today. For anyone who doesn't already know about their bigotry, here is more, No need to give them your money this Christmas, or ever.

It’s dinner time for the police. Appears to be pizza from a Salvation Army van.

Broadview’s “free speech” curfew starts soon, at 6pm.

somanymonkeys.bsky.social
Pritzker is doing what he needs to do to win court cases against Trump deploying National Guard & make it clear invoking the Insurrection Act is purely a fascist move.

That's at odds with protestors who want to engage in civil disobedience by blocking roads around ICE in Broadview.

I saw myself as maybe all in for J.B. Pritzker

But I am losing faith, rapidly.

Police state fascism in America is bigger than Trump. It's backed by Democrats just like Republicans. And it's not going anywhere

Note: it's not even curfew yet.

State police just started pushing people off the business park corner. Here in the road, a brave group of demonstrators are attempting to hold their line.
