I know that there are people outside Chicago who are paying attention and seeing these videos but there are no words for how it feels when the videos show everyday places in your neighborhood, places that are part of your routine. The sense of violation is profound.

more conferences should personify telescopes as anime girls, imo

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

He was always going to do this. Chicagoans have not rioted, so the administration just lied and said we have. We have not attacked ICE agents, so they just lied and said we did. There was no chaos here, so they created chaotic scenes by attacking people and filmed that shit.

Y'all who keep lecturing protesters to "not give them an excuse" need to pause for a minute. Imagine yourself telling a DV victim, "Be sure not to mouth off or make any mistakes so he won't hit you. Don't give him an excuse! It's what he wants!" That's what you fools sound like.

I think what’s most frustrating right now for Black and Indigneous people is waiting for the bulk of white folks to catch up.

At some point the “this isn’t who we are” and “I didn’t have this on my bingo card” has to end and y’all will catch up, right? RIGHT?

WE NEED YOU TO CATCH UP.
i asked julia if she had seen this, she asked what it was about and i said “cate blanchett plays a famous conductor”

The border must go. We cannot do this to people over lines on a map. We CANNOT

Moreover, ICE must be destroyed
This passage nearly broke me.
Klein's seems to be completely unaware of the right wing propaganda machine that has been pushing us toward fascism for the last decade. He takes the results of a single election, extrapolating what views they think are popular from it, and assuming those views are set in stone. it's defeatist af

I want a 13th Amendment lawsuit challenging prison slavery, espech in immigration detention

I know youre thinkin 'the Constitution's ban on slavery explicitly exempts prison labor' but it's actually slightly narrower, exempting "punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted"
I also had two papers come out this month! I worked on the first XRISM results from the Perseus cluster and got time on XRISM to observe A1914, which we discovered was undergoing a line-of-sight merger! 🔭
alright maybe I should start using this account properly.
Hi! I'm Annie, I'm getting a PhD from UChicago in X-ray observations of galaxy clusters. I mostly work on data from Chandra and XRISM.

Thinking for my next grand proposal, I'll include an 'Anti-DEI' section, where I promise I'll spend a small portion of the money finding the most painfully mediocre conservative straight white dude I can and telling him how special he is.

Incredibly important interview with @margaret.bsky.social and former political prisoner Eric King.

Trump is pushing for trans people to be moved into different prisons, a death sentence for many. Eric maps out ways that people can organize and support those on the inside.
New It Could Happen Here

@margaret.bsky.social talks with former prisoner Eric King about conditions for trans people in prison, what the new policies can mean, and how you can help advocate for people on the inside.
