Thank you, Kathleen. Seeing you're from
Va reminded me something unusual happened while I photographed the storm. I grew up in Va and remember seeing countless lightning bugs on summer nights. As it got dark, I started seeing lightning bugs flying around! Very rare here in NM and most of the West.

Early August supercell storm on the plains near Roy, New Mexico. I had the fortune to watch this storm build through the late afternoon and put on a magnificent light show for more than an hour after sunset. One image #BlueSkyArtShow #Glow #photography #NMWX #scape #Lightning #StormChasing #Monsoon
A massive supercell thunderstorm dominates the twilight sky, illuminated from within by brilliant cloud-to-ground and cloud-to-cloud lightning. The storm’s structure glows against deep blue dusk, while the foreground shows a wide, grassy plain with sparse grass abd desert cholla stretching toward the distant horizon. Beautiful drive to Crownpoint a couple of days ago. It makes me appreciate that area wise, New Mexico is the 5th largest state. So much to explore! #photography #nm 📷

See, you do have some influence at the NY Times. 😉

It’s beautiful, and so is Molly’s home, located about a mile away. Just to clarify, Molly was a guest at the hotel; it wasn’t named after her. The hotel was named after its founder, Henry C. Brown, in the early 1890s.

An Eastern Tiger Swallowtail on a pink zinnia. A Painted Lady on a pink zinnia. A blurred metal flower spinner in the background. A Pipevine Swallowtail on a dark pink zinnia. In the top and bottom right corners are other pink zinnias and the background is a combination of cosmos plants and a few pale pink cosmos and grass. A Gulf Fritillary on a yellow zinnia with the green leaves in the background.

With its own steam boiler, Denver's Brown Palace Hotel was built for electricity.

Interior view of a hotel atrium with ornate architecture. There are multiple open balconies rising several stories high, each lined with decorative wrought-iron railings. Warm golden light glows from intricate ceiling panels and chandeliers. Below this vantage, on the main floor people dine in a richly furnished restaurant area. A large Colorado state flag hangs right of center.

Yes, I was beginning to think it was going to be like the plains!

Coming home tonight after an afternoon of chasing thunderstorms near Socorro, New Mexico. Lots of hail and rain, but few bolts. The afternoon still had its reward. This scene is unfolded over the Isleta Pueblo.

Like your posters! Great service you are doing for your students and others who see them.

My wife and I mask and we haven't had a cold or anything since the pandemic started. Just received the latest Novavax vaccine yesterday.

#Relax on Route 66, Winslow Arizona

A neon lit vintage roadside motel at night. The sign above the office reads “SLEEPING on the corner in Winslow, Arizona,” glowing red and white against the dark blue sky. Below the roofline, green and pink neon lights frame the small brick building with a Route 66 sign marked “Earl’s 66.” The office door is flanked by chairs, and a pickup truck is parked in front of the rooms, their doors illuminated by warm yellow bulbs.

Music store in Denver.

At night do the notes come out to play?

Nighttime view through the barred window of a music store. The metal bars are decorated with cut out treble clefs and music notes. Inside, shelves display music books, sheet music, and instrument accessories under fluorescent lighting. Horizontal blinds partially cover the glass, casting striped shadows across the scene.

Lightning over the Jicarilla Apache Centennial Highway west of Cuba, New Mexico. Perhaps the spirit of a warrior dancing across the sky.

Night scene of a thunderstorm over rural New Mexico. A vivid white lightning bolt strikes the distant hills beneath a dark, turbulent cloud base, with curtains of rain falling in the background. In the foreground, a winding two-lane road curves into the storm, bordered by sagebrush and silhouetted trees.

Great selection Julie. Wonderful, existential mood in the photo of the steps. Made me think of Jacob's Ladder.

Very informative Chris. What does this portend for the
Sangre de Christo Mountains in Colorado and New Mexico?
