I think this is a challenge @equalaccesspublicmedia.org has faced a lot.

What are we? Are we affiliated with NPR and PBS, or before it started shutting down, CPB? Did we get government funding from the public media funds for CPB?

The answer to all that is no.

Why donate here when every Public Media Affiliate station takes donations?

IMO people should donate to their local station

When will we accept that Politico is not quality news?

Big win for accessibility and us a11y nerds this week. Thank you @ire.org!

Bonus: we got to introduce a bunch of journalists to what a screen reader sounds like!

I played a screen reader reading a bunch of emojis. And then I played a screen reader reading the same sentence without emojis.

Friends don't let friends emoji.

Today wraps up @ire.org's AccessFest. I'm grateful for getting to present with James Ku on Thursday, and again today with @stacykess.bsky.social and Sam Evans. Each focused on what journalists can start doing to make their work more accessible to people with disabilities. #AccessFest25 #AccessFest

Someone get me better video and I can tell you exactly what model iPhone.
stacykess.bsky.social
Also, that's an iPhone, if anyone wondered.

It took me a few times, and slowing down the video, but yeah. There it is.

The ICE agent on the left taking a fucking selfie as they violently arrest the women they dragged from the vehicle they crashed into just a moment earlier.
Frame at 1:07 from video in quoted post. ICE agent on left takes a self as he and ICE agent on right violently arrest woman they dragged out of vehicle they sideswiped just moments earlier.

It happens to be the Fall Fund Drive. There's literally no minimum to donate, so even $1 helps. We suggest $5, but yes, you can even donate a $1. Our goal is $1,500. We've already raised $75. So help @equalaccesspublicmedia.org raise a little more.

And someday, last on the list, have enough to pay me. Not that I don't love working for nothing, but I can't do it forever.

So if you're hearing Mr. Rhames voice in your head too, saying, "Damn, this girl has everything with nothing" consider helping @equalaccesspublicmedia.org.

Things we need to do:
• Raise our freelance pay to industry standard for The Word.
• Get funding to hire full-timers to launch the National Tab.
• Hire others to run this org.

6/
stacykess.bsky.social
How do we do that? By me not taking any pay despite all the work I do. By keeping all our overhead to a minimum. And sadly, keeping our freelance pay low at the moment.

Anyway, I'm really proud of what we've built with this shoestring budget. We've raised a little over $3,000 in the little over a year we've been fundraising, and we're down to about $1,000 left. That will get us through the end of the year.

In my head, that voice sounds a lot like Ving Rhames. I dunno. Just go with it.

I have this dream that someday, someone is going to recognize the extremely long hours and all the work I put in to @equalaccesspublicmedia.org and say, "Damn girl! You built all this with nothing. Here's all the money EAPM needs."

I slept late today. (5 a.m. instead of 4:30. I'm usually up and at my desk by 5 a.m.) But I've already updated @equalaccesspublicmedia.org's websites, scheduled the social media the volunteers did for the next few days, scanned slides for today's #AccessFest25 panel one more time, etc.

Husband just called my handwriting "a lot of scribbles there."

I'd say them are fightin' words, but he's correct.
stacykess.bsky.social
Two things you should know about me:

1. I spill coffee on my desk almost every day. Damn hands that don't work right anymore.

2. I still make edits on hard copies in non-photo blue. Old habits die hard.
stacykess.bsky.social
You'd think enough times would teach me, but sometimes I give fellow "journalists" too much leeway.
stacykess.bsky.social
Nope, it's enough interactions with the OP that turned into me getting very *cough* interesting responses from her that have convinced me that she has an attitude that I no longer wish to deal with.

With journalists being tackled to the ground in Chicago and arrested for no goddamn reason, I'd like to link to a piece I wrote last week. I'm actually dusting off the old reporter chops and working on a story right now. So hey, you'll get more out of me soon.

I lived in NY. I'm not "trying too hard." That was someone shitting on someone else for the sake of it.
stacykess.bsky.social
I don't deal with people shit on other people for the sake of shitting on other people.
stacykess.bsky.social
Trying to hard? Guess living in New York was a problem. I'm happy I no longer live there.

You can sue us.
You can jail us.
You can tackle us to the ground.

We still have a job to do.

We'll still investigate. We'll still expose. We'll still report.

We're the journalists who make up the free press.

We're only beholden to one thing:

The facts.

I personally think this is the correct order.
