Not like Young Frankenstein lacks for appreciation, but: Mel Brooks directed the hell out of this. There are long takes in the opening act that are nearly Spielbergian. Brooks' scripts are full of great lines, of course, but he also knew how to tell a joke with a shot, a skill that's rare now.
